National French Fries Day is celebrated on the 13th of July annually, but, from this year, it will be celebrated on the second Friday of July to celebrate the favourite Munchy. Well, this snack is world-famous and is loved by many. But do you know these crispy "french fries" are not from France.

Yes, you heard that right. The exact origins of french fries are from Belgium. Moreover, the name french fries garnered popularity during World War I when American soldiers were introduced to this delicious treat.

According to Belgian lore, poor villagers who often ate fried fish, but in winter months when the river froze fishing becomes a difficult task and the villagers resorted to eating potatoes, slicing and frying them just like fish.
