Different parts of India have different ways of making this dish. Every variety has its own unique flavour. While originally, Biryani was made solely with mutton, it gradually began to be made with chicken, egg and even vegetables.

When it comes to the two most popular types of Biryanis, mutton and chicken definitely top the list. Here’s a detailed comparison between the two varieties.

Mutton Biryani

Mutton Biryani, as the name suggests, is made with mutton and requires more time and effort than the chicken one. The meat needs to be boiled and cooked thoroughly to ensure it is soft and succulent. The preparation also involves a variety of spices and ingredients such as bay leaf, cloves, onions, garlic and green chillies.

Chicken Biryani

Chicken Biryani, on the other hand, requires fewer spices than mutton. Chicken is tender and thus, it is easy for the spices to get absorbed by the meat. Another major difference between this and the mutton one is that the latter requires to be pressure cooked while the former does not.
