Fizzling, Masterdating: New dating and non-dating terms Gen Z is using this Christmas

The festive season is all about eating good food, going on vacations, and spending time with your loved ones. However, unlike movies, Christmas and New Year are not all about holding hands and walking in the snow, especially for Gen Z. Real-life dating is more messy and not all lovey-dovey. Along the same lines, Gen Z has picked four terms to describe dating (and non-dating) this festive season.

Gen Z's New Terms for Festival Dating

Tinselling

Gen Z's have introduced a new term 'Tinselling' to describe dating during the Christmas season. Named after the shiny Christmas decorative item Tinsel, 'Tinselling' means sweeping your problems under the carpet and dealing with them once the holiday season is over.

Fizzling

Another term Gen Z has been using is 'Fizzling'. This meant that the relationship between two individuals is fizzling out, more so during the festive season. Whether it is the pressure of giving gifts or having to meet families, many relationships end as the year draws to a close.

Masterdating

Gen Z also believes in self-love aka 'Masterdating'. This refers to a date you go for by yourself. This is especially true for those who are single and are feeling left out during the Christmas and New Year season.

Cuffing Season

Another term Gen Z introduced is 'cuffing season'. This refers to the need to have someone to cuddle with during the winter months. The need to find a person to cuddle and spend time with is driven by the loneliness that the season brings along.
