Wife beater tee: Gen Z loves this undershirt but are cancelling its name; know why

Gen Zers have got yet another thing to cancel and this time, it is a white sleeveless undershirt for men. Well, they are not actually in the mood to cancel the clothing item but it's controversial name - 'wife beater tee'.

This piece of clothing has often been sported by celebrities like The Bear actor Jeremy Allen White. Other than him, several people from the younger generation are also found carrying it well.

People aren't sure where the name started, but some say it comes from a 1947 case in Detroit, Michigan. A man was arrested for hurting his wife so badly that she died. There's a picture of him wearing the famous tee during his arrest. And that's how the tee apparently got its name.

Nowadays, young people have a different name for this old thing and now they are calling it the wife-pleaser. Several social media users are liking the idea of this new name a lot and they are in for changing the name of this tee. But not everyone agrees.

Some people think calling it a wife pleaser is embarrassing and not cool. Others wonder if just saying undershirt or tank top is enough. What do you think?
