Diwali 2022 | Why do people worship Lakshmi-Ganesh and not just Ram-Sita?

Diwali 2022: Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated across the country with much joy and enthusiasm. This year Diwali shall be celebrated on 4th November.

Lord Rama is said to have returned from a 14-year exile with his wife Sita and younger brother Laxman on this day. As a mark of celebration, people decorate their homes and light earthen diyas to brighten up the atmosphere.

Even though Lord Rama is honoured throughout Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are also worshipped in the evening. Have you ever wondered why?

Diwali is said to be associated with Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu's consort, as well as the goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is on the day of Diwali when Lakshmi chose Vishnu as her spouse and married him. Apart from that, Goddess Lakshmi is said to have been born on Diwali during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan).

Goddess Lakshmi is believed to visit each house on Diwali night to bless her worshippers with tremendous wealth and prosperity. The main door is kept open during puja rituals as a sign of welcoming the Goddess into our homes.
