Woman paraded nude in Karnataka's Belagavi district

A video of a woman being paraded naked in Karnataka's Belagavi district seven months ago went viral on Thursday. Police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the survivor's daughter.

According to police, the alleged incident occurred on July 31, 2023 when the survivor and her son were beaten up for questioning the encroachment of a half-an-acre plot of land. The area encroached was part of the three acres allotted to the woman by the government.

The accused not only paraded the woman nude and beat up her family, but also threatened her with dire consequences if she lodged a complaint, her daughter alleged.

Senior officers of the Belagavi district administration have camped in the village to probe the matter further.

This incident is a reminder of a similar one that took place in Vantamuri village in Belagavi district where a woman was attacked on December 11, 2023 after her son eloped with a girl from his own community.
