Who is IPS officer Prabhakar Chaudhary, transferred 18 times in 8 years

IPS officer Prabhakar Chaudhary has been transferred 18 times in 8 years. Some news outlets have reported that he has been transferred around 30 times since he joined the force in 2010.

The latest transfer came on July 30, just hours after he cracked down on a group of kanwariyas who insisted on taking out a procession through an unauthorised route in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district.

According to the police, the officers lathi-charged the group of kanwariyas to disperse them after a nearly 6-hour stand-off. The group reportedly shouted slogans against the police. 5 people were detained and a case was registered. Within hours, SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary was transferred to the Lucknow-based 32nd Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary

Chaudhary an IPS officer of the 2010 batch, began his career as an under-training Assistant Superintendent of Police in Noida and has served in police departments across Uttar Pradesh, including in Ballia, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Varanasi and Kanpur. Multiple media outlets have reported that he cleared the UPSC exams in the first attempt.

He was posted as the SP of Kanpur Dehat in 2016. Chaudhury reportedly took a state roadways bus and a tempo with just one bag instead of official transport to take over the Kanpur job. According to India Today, during a rescue operation in Kanpur Dehat, he used his own car to take injured people to the hospital

When he took charge of the Mathura district in 2017, Chaudhary took strict action against the mafia and local gangs. He also acted against illegal businesses involving silver traders. He was transferred within 3 months. Prabhakar Chaudhary became the ASP of Sitapur in June 2018 but he was transferred within six months

According to Aaj Tak, Meerut is the only posting where Chaudhary has served a year. He was a Meerut SSP in June 2021 and transferred to Agra in June 2022. He was shunted out from there to Sitapur after almost 5 months in November 2022. He continued his duties in Sitapur till March 2023 after which he was sent to Bareilly.
