Over 11 lakh devotees visit Kedarnath by June 18; CM Dhami hails it as a blend of faith and development

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday highlighted the unprecedented success of the ongoing Kedarnath Dham Yatra, calling it a powerful blend of spiritual devotion and development.

Sharing updates on social media platform X, CM Dhami revealed that over 11.4 lakh pilgrims have visited the sacred Kedarnath shrine in just 48 days.

Describing the yatra as “a wonderful confluence of development with faith,” the Chief Minister said the rising number of devotees has not only enhanced Uttarakhand’s spiritual prominence but also bolstered its local economy. “This is not just a pilgrimage but has become a symbol of Uttarakhand's economic, cultural and spiritual prosperity. Hail Baba Kedar!” he stated, using the hashtag #CharDhamYatra2025.

The Char Dham Yatra, which includes pilgrimages to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, is among the most significant religious circuits in Hinduism. In recent years, the state government has prioritized infrastructure upgrades—improving roads, heli services, and accommodation facilities—to ensure a safer and more comfortable experience for pilgrims.

The 2025 Yatra season, which began on May 2 with the opening of Kedarnath Dham, has seen record-breaking turnout. Officials credit this to both enhanced facilities and renewed spiritual enthusiasm. Security and medical arrangements have been intensified to handle the influx of devotees in high-altitude terrain.

The economic impact of the yatra is substantial. According to an official release, local hotels, eateries, shops, and service providers—such as horse-mule operators, heli service vendors, and dandi-kandi workers—have generated business worth around ₹300 crore. This has provided a major economic boost to local communities, especially traders, SHGs, and transporters.

Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Ashish Rawat shared that “Till June 18, 2,27,614 pilgrims have reached for darshan through horses and mules, which has generated an income of Rs 66 crore 73 lakh 90 thousand 350.” He noted that approximately 8,000 horses and mules have been registered, although operations were briefly affected by an outbreak of equine influenza.

Helicopter services continue to be a vital link for many devotees. District Tourism Officer and Nodal Heli Service official Rahul Chaubey said, “Till June 18, 49,247 devotees have reached Baba Kedarnath Dham through heli services, which has generated an income of about Rs 60 crore.” He also urged pilgrims to use only the official IRCTC website for bookings.

In addition, dandi-kandi services—especially useful for small children and elderly pilgrims—have seen over ₹2 crore in earnings this season. Over 7,000 operators are registered for these services, as highlighted by Additional Chief Officer of District Panchayat Rudraprayag, Sanjay Kumar.

Assistant Transport Officer of Rudraprayag, Kulwant Singh Chauhan, reported that 225 vehicles are currently registered for the Kedarnath shuttle services, generating revenue of nearly ₹11 crore by June 18.

The administration has also taken enforcement measures to maintain cleanliness and order, issuing fines totaling ₹4.17 lakh for violations including littering.

With spiritual commitment and developmental strides walking hand in hand, this year’s Kedarnath Dham Yatra stands as a shining example of how pilgrimage and progress can coexist for the greater good of the people and the region.
