Shyam Rangeela's nomination finally accepted, terms it 'victory of democracy'

After days of uncertainty, comedian Shyam Rangeela was finally able to file nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on May 14.

Earlier, the 29-year-old comedian, who shot to fame by mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claimed that he was not being allowed to file his papers. According to the Election Commission, Shyam filed his nomination under his official name, Shyam Sunder.

"This is our victory in democracy because once they started accepting nominations, around 14 people filed their papers. Today, even after 3 pm, the officials are still accepting. There will be a 200% increase in filing nominations. If 14 people file nominations till now, the number will increase to 30. It's all because of you and social media people. You all amplified my plea and it was heard by the people in the office."

"I was running pillar to post from morning, and finally, they accepted it. I want to thank the Election Commission of India in Delhi, which heard our plea. They must have talked to them here. I want to express my gratitude to everyone. Today, we emerged victorious. And we won't wait till June 4. The battles we fought today, because of which we have achieved victory."
