Teacher Arrested for Alleged Rape of 9-Year-Old in Jharkhand

Simdega, Jharkhand, Jul 8 (PTI) — In a distressing incident from Jharkhand's Simdega district, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her school teacher, as confirmed by the police on Tuesday.

The government school teacher, along with two other individuals, was arrested in relation to the case, according to Simdega Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Arshi. The arrests followed the filing of an FIR by the girl's mother at the Kurdeg police station, accusing the teacher of committing the heinous crime.

The incident reportedly took place on June 27 in a village under the jurisdiction of the Kurdeg police station. SP Arshi stated that the accused, who fled immediately after the crime, attempted to use the local panchayat to dissuade the family from filing the FIR.

"Besides the teacher, we have also apprehended two other individuals who conducted a village panchayat meeting aimed at concealing the incident. When we became aware that influential local figures were trying to stop the victim's family from approaching the police, our team encouraged the family to file a formal complaint," the SP explained.

All three accused were remanded into custody on Monday. A separate police source reported that the medical examination of the victim was conducted on July 7.

The accused teacher allegedly brought the victim to a culvert in the village where the crime was executed, the police official noted, adding that both the perpetrator and the minor girl reside in the same village.
