Assam's Tanuj Samaddar to Attend IUCN World Conservation Congress

Guwahati, Oct 7 (PTI) — A promising young mind from Assam, Tanuj Samaddar, has been chosen to attend the esteemed IUCN World Conservation Congress, set to take place in Abu Dhabi starting October 9, as per an announcement. He earned this opportunity through selection by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The World Conservation Congress, a globally significant event occurring every four years, brings together experts in nature conservation, leaders, and decision-makers from across the world. The current congress runs until October 15, with its theme centered on the ‘Power of Transformative Change.’ This year's congress marks a significant landmark in progressing towards the goals established for the Convention on Biological Diversity, alongside those set since the pivotal COP21 in Paris for climate change mitigation. Tanuj Samaddar is a resident of Rangia in the Kamrup district and is in the midst of his undergraduate studies at a college affiliated with Delhi University. He is also a recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. Additionally, he holds a position with the Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP) at IUCN. Samaddar is expected to take part in the CEESP’s thematic sessions and engage in country-specific pavilions, as noted in the release. He will also interact with policymakers and activists globally to address the increasingly pressing threat of encroachment upon Assam's wetlands.
