Kirodi Lal Meena has resigned as a minister in the Rajasthan government following the BJP's underwhelming performance in the Lok Sabha polls in the state.
During the recently held elections, Meena (72) had said he would quit the Bhajan Lal Sharma government if the BJP loses any of the seven parliamentary seats under his responsibility.
The Rajasthan agriculture, rural development, disaster management and relief minister had said Prime Minister Narendra Modi assigned him the seven seats in eastern Rajasthan on which he worked hard during the polls.
But in the Lok Sabha poll results announced on June 4, the BJP lost some of these seats, including his native Dausa. Overall the BJP won 14 of the state's 25 seats, its tally coming down from 24 in the 2019 polls.
"Kirodi Meena resigned as minister. He gave the resignation to the chief minister 10 days back," an aide of the minister said.
On Thursday, Meena posted the famous Ramcharitramanas lines 'Raghukul reeti sada chali aai, pran jaai par vachan na jaai' on X to underline his unwavering intent to keep his promise at any cost.
Meena campaigned on eastern Rajasthan seats including Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli- Dholpur, Alwar, Tonk-Sawaimadhopur and Kota-Bundi.
In the results declared last month, the BJP lost Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur and Tonk-Sawai Madhopur.
Meena said he resigned to keep his word. "There is no reason for resentment. I have resigned. I did not go to the recent Cabinet meeting because if I had resigned. I could go morally. I had also met the CM. He had respectfully said that he will not accept the resignation," he told a news channel on Thursday.
Meena said he had already announced in public he would resign if the party does not win the seats he worked on.
He was also in the race of chief minister's post after the results of the assembly elections were announced in December last year, but the party high command picked up first-time MLA Bhajanlal Sharma to lead the state.
Kirodi Meena, who is a five-time MLA and former Rajya Sabha MP, has been a Lok Sabha MP from Dausa and Sawai Madhopur.

Fifteen officials of the public sector company got trapped in a mine Tuesday night when a vertical shaft used to carry the personnel collapsed, police said.
Dr Mahendra Singh, a part of the medical team, said the three rescued were sent to a hospital. Efforts are on to bring the remaining 12 out.
"All have been rescued. Of them, three have been taken out of the mine and sent to hospital. They have fractures," he said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said officials have been instructed to speed up the relief and rescue operations.
"Information was received about the accident caused by the breakage of the lift rope in the Kolihan mine of Hindustan Copper Limited in Khetri, Jhunjhunu. The concerned officials have been instructed to immediately reach the spot and speed up the relief and rescue operations and provide all possible help and health facilities to the affected," he said in a post on X.
A vigilance team, along with senior officials and workers of the state-owned company, had gone inside the mine for an inspection.

Me iss saal bhi nahi kar paya (I couldn&rsquo;t do it this year, either)&rdquo; was recovered from the room. &nbsp; Bharat Rajput hailed from Rajasthan&rsquo;s Dholpur district and was living with his nephew at a PG in the Jawahar Nagar area of Kota. &nbsp; &ldquo;The incident occurred between 10.30 am and 11 am. The boy was living in this PG for one year with his nephew. We were told that the nephew had gone to the market, and when he returned at around 11 am, despite continuous knocking on the door, there was no response. Then, the landlord was called, and they looked through the window. That was when they saw Bharat&rsquo;s body hanging,&rdquo; Jawahar Nagar police station SI Gopal Singh told The Indian Express.&nbsp;
Singh said this year&rsquo;s exam would have been Bharat&rsquo;s third NEET attempt, and that he had seemed &ldquo;quite stressed out&rdquo;. &nbsp;
This year, nine students died in Kota.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Days after criticising PM Modi's statement about Muslims, the BJP's former Bikaner minority cell president Usman Gani has been jailed on charges of 'breach of peace'.
The India Express reported, that Usman went to the Prasad Nagar police station on Saturday. Dhirendra Shekhawat, SHO, said " A police vehicle was sent to Gani's locality as a precautionary measure, on the day he issued a statement against PM Modi. Gani was in Delhi he reached directly to the police station."&nbsp;
Shekhawat further added Usman told the police "how dare they send a vehicle to his home". "There was a barricade outside the police station he started an argument with the police personnel deployed there and we locked him up," Shekhawat added.
A case under CrPC section 151 has been logged against Gani for 'breach of peace' and will be presented before district magistrate. SHO said, "To maintain peace we will bound him down for six months." The police didn't provide any details on why a police vehicle was sent to Gani's home. However, sub-inspector Radheshyam said, "Gani had made some comments... his video went viral and for that action under CrPC 151 has been taken."
Gani in an interview expressed his displeasure after PM Modi in an election rally said Congress would audit your property and take your jewelry and hand it over to those who have many children, a reference towards Muslims. Gani said that when he goes to seek votes from the Muslims for BJP, they ask for the answers to the remarks PM made.
In the recent past, Gani's picture went viral welcoming PM Modi where he was seen wearing a prayer cap. He has been associated with ABVP and then BJP for about 20 years.&nbsp;
Gani was expelled from the party's basic membership for six years for breach of discipline. BJP's Minority Morch state president Hameed Khan Mewati said "Action will be taken against anyone who speaks against the party. The party took action after Gani crossed the party line and spoke wrong against the party."&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi again raked up former prime Manmohan Singh's 2006 speech to claim that Congress indulges in vote bank politics to appease certain sections of the society, and ignore others.
While delivering a speech in Rajasthan's Tonk region, Modi also raked up the issue of redistribution of wealth while attacking Congress, saying that they have intentions to seize people's assets for their own gain.
"When the Indian constitution was being written, there was opposition to reservation based on religion so that SC/ST community's access gets secured. &nbsp;But Manmohan Singh said (in 2006) that Muslims have the first right to India's assets. This was not an isolated speech. Congress has always indulged in appeasement politics.&nbsp;
"You must have read Congress manifesto. In that, they talk about redistributing wealth. They said that they will also survey your mangalsutra. Then one of their leaders said an X-ray would be done."
"Their leader publicly said it. And then they said that they will seize all of your excess property and distribute them to other people."&nbsp;
He further said that the Congress party indulges in appeasement and vote bank politics.
"Congress party&rsquo;s ideology has always been that of appeasement and vote bank politics. In 2004, when Congress formed the government at the Centre, one of the first things they did was to include Muslims in the SC/ST quota in Andhra Pradesh. The cause of the fire is reported to be a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building.

A massive fire broke out on Sunday morning in a boys' hostel building injuring eight students here with preliminary reports suggesting that the short circuit led to the blaze, police said.
The incident happened at around 6.15 am in Landmark City under Kunhari police station, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kota City Amrita Duhan said.
According to an initial investigation, a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building led to the fire, the police said. The forensic team, however, is trying to ascertain the exact reason for the incident.
Rakesh Vyas, a fire officer at Kota Municipal Corporation, said the hostel building was not equipped with fire safety measures and did not have a fire NOC. He added that it was alarming that the transformer was installed inside the hostel building.
The police said the six injured students, including one who sustained severe burns, are receiving primary medical treatment at Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) Hospital here.
One student, who suffered a fracture in his leg after he along with 14 others jumped from the building's first floor to escape the fire, is being treated at a private hospital, they added.
Bhavishya, a NEET aspirant from Bihar's Chindwara who lived in the building, was also injured in the incident. He said he was woken up by a loud noise at around 6.15 am and when he came out of his room, he found thick smoke everywhere.
He said the students decided to jump from the first floor as the staircase was filled with smoke and there was no other way out of the building.
The building had 75 rooms of which 61 were occupied, SP Duhan said.
She added that fire tenders rushed to the spot in time and doused the fire before it could spread to the upper floors.
All the students have been rescued from the building, circle inspector at Kunhari police station Arvind Bhardwaj said.
The parents of the students are being contacted to assure them that their wards are safe, he added.
Bhardwaj said that as most students couldn't carry their mobile phones while they were being rescued, a helpdesk is also being set up for the students and their parents.
The matter is being investigated, the CI said.&nbsp;

According to police, the wife and family members of the man had found out about his affair with the woman.
In the video, a woman can be seen dragging the victim, who is half naked, by the hair while she pleads.
Superintendent of Police, Barmer, Kundan Kawaria, said following the registration of a case at the Samdari police station, two women were detained while the victim was undergoing counselling.

A girl from Rajasthan said her school did not let her appear for class 12 board examinations because she had been gang-raped last year. According to the student's complaint, the private school officials in Ajmer told her that the atmosphere would be spoiled if she appeared for the examination.&nbsp;
This incident came to light when the girl approached a teacher at another school. The teacher advised her to call the child helpline number. Ajmer's Child Welfare Commission (CWC) filed a case and will take necessary action after an investigation.&nbsp;
However, the school claimed that they did not give an admit card to the student as she did not attend classes for 4 months.&nbsp;
Last year, the student was raped by her uncle and two other men. The girl told the CWC chairperson Anjali Sharma that the school suggested that she should study from home as her coming to school could spoil the atmosphere.&nbsp;
The student agreed and was preparing for her board exams at home. Later, when she went to collect her admit card, she was told by the school that she was no longer a student of the school.&nbsp;
CWC chairperson Anjali Sharma told NDTV, "When I spoke to the girl, she told me that she was dejected as she is a bright student. She had scored 79% in her class 10 board exams."

Naresh Mulani alias Nishu, the deceased, had been in the jail since 2022 and was found dead Thursday night, they said.
Police claim Mulani died by suicide, though investigation is on in the matter.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that the convict committed suicide while in the bathroom. Other inmates discovered his body and informed the jail authorities," Lal Kothi Police Station SHO Banna Lal said.
Mulani was a native of Bagru Walon Ka Rasta in Jaipur and had been serving time for killing a transgender person in the Nahargarh area.

"A total of 11 people have died. Five were brought dead to SMS hospital. Five succumbed during treatment. One death was reported from Jaipuria hospital," Dr Deepak Maheshwari, Principal, SMS Medical College, said.
Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph, who was at the crash site, said an outlet nozzle of the LPG tanker was damaged in the collision, leading to a gas leak that caused the blaze.
The crash occurred around 5.30 am, when it was still dark, in front of a school, according to authorities.
"Vehicles behind the tanker were engulfed in flames. Other vehicles coming from the opposite directions also caught fire and the vehicles collided," Joseph said.
The gas leak spread the fire in a flash, leaving no scope for those in nearby vehicles to come out. People were seen rushing and taking off clothes engulfed in flames.
The injured were rushed to the SMS hospital in Jaipur in more than 25 ambulances.
Forty-three people were brought to the hospital, seven of whom are on ventilator support, Dr Maheshwawri said.
Officials at the spot indicated that the casualty count may go up.
The Rajasthan government announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and his predecessor Ashok Gehlot expressed grief over the deaths.
In a post on X, Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Modi also spoke to CM Sharma to enquire about the incident and assured him of all possible support.
Earlier in the day, people reported witnessing flames from nearly a kilometre away as thick black smoke filled the sky and ambulances and fire brigade vehicles rushed towards the crash zone. A school van driver on his way to pick students recounted with horror the sight of a man engulfed in flames on the road.
The crash initially affected a nearly 300-metre stretch of the highway, leading to a long queue of vehicles. The traffic thickened with time and by afternoon choked the arterial road, leading to diversions.
Authorities were clearing the highway of the burnt vehicles to resume vehicular movement.
Thirty-seven vehicles, including several tailers, trucks and containers, two buses, as many pickups and bikes, one auto rickshaws and seven cars, were damaged in fire.
In the wake of the incident, Sharma along with Khimsar, rushed to SMS hospital.
Sharma also visited the accident site and spoke to police.
"I visited the hospital as soon as I got the incident. This is a very unfortunate incident. Instructions have been given to ensure proper treatment and other arrangements," he told reporters at the crash site.
Khimsar told reporters at the hospital that all doctors, resident doctors, and nursing staff had been called in to manage the situation and another ward opened to accommodate patients.
A 'green corridor' was set up from the accident site to the SMS hospital, he added.
An official said a private sleeper bus headed for Jaipur from Udaipur was behind the gas tanker when the accident occurred and efforts were underway to find the details of the passengers onboard.
A fire department official said, "A few fire tenders from Mansarover were rushed to the spot based on primary information, but later more were sent from other stations as well."
A team from the regional transport office also reached the spot to investigate the incident and Forensic Science Laboratory teams collected evidence.
Locals complained of itching in the eyes and breathing problems due to the smoke. Some said a few birds were found dead nearby.
A pipe factory along the highway suffered damages in the incident.
Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa and Minister of State for Home Jawahwar Singh Bedham also reached the accident site, while state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra and several BJP and Congress MLAs visited the hospital.
The school van driver told PTI that the flames were visible from a kilometre away and there was panic and chaos on the highway.
"As I got closer to the spot, I saw people running in haste and shouting for help. I saw a man engulfed in flames. It was a frightening scene. Fire brigades and ambulances were there but it was difficult for them to reach the spot initially," he said.
Jaipur Police has issued the helpline numbers 91-66-347-551, 87-64-688-431 and 73-00-363-636 for people to get in touch for inquiries or relevant information.
Dotasra told reporters at the site, "Many of the injured are critical. Such incidents should not happen and for this, governments should make arrangements."
He said the government should form a high-level committee and take concrete action so that such incidents are not repeated.

A SpiceJet staff member was arrested Thursday after she allegedly slapped a Central Industrial Security Force officer during an argument over security screening, police said while the airline called it a "serious case of sexual harassment." A CCTV video clip shows the CISF officer speaking to the woman. Suddenly, she moves two steps towards him and then delivers a slap on his face.
A woman constable then takes her aside.
While the police have registered a case of assault against Anuradha Rani on the basis of a complaint by Assistant Sub Inspector Giriraj Prasad, the airline too has approached the local police and said it is taking immediate legal action.
Officials said the woman was sent to judicial custody by a local court.
The SpiceJet statement claimed that their employee was subject to inappropriate language and the CISF officer even asked her to "come and meet him after his duty hours at his home".
Police initially said Rani worked as a food supervisor, however, the airline described her as a female security staff member.
"The woman has been arrested and her statement is being taken. The woman has also lodged a complaint. We are verifying the facts following which appropriate action will be taken," DCP Kavendra Singh said.
According to the CISF complaint, an argument took place when Rani was entering the airport along with other staff through the vehicle gate around 4:40 am.
She was stopped by the ASI for allegedly not having valid permission to use that gate, CISF officials said.
While she had a valid BCAS-issued airport entry pass, she was asked to wait for screening and frisking at the nearby entrance for airline crew as there was no female CISF personnel available at that time, they said.
She was not allowed to enter from the "vehicle gate", CISF officials added.
Local Jaipur airport police station SHO Ram Lal said the ASI then called a female colleague for the security check, but the argument escalated and the SpiceJet employee slapped him.
The airline said in its statement, "While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India's civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home." "We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support," the SpiceJet spokesperson said.
Asked about the charges of sexual harassment being levelled by the woman against the ASI, CISF officials said the allegation was an "afterthought" as they refused a mutual compromise and chose to file a complaint with the police.
The CISF officials said CCTV recording of the early morning incident shows that about six people, including a woman CISF personnel, were at the spot when the alleged argument and the slapping happened.
CISF officials said a thorough inquiry is being conducted into the incident after CCTV footage showed that the woman hit the uniformed official "despite no provocation".
A deputy inspector general (DIG)-rank officer of the CISF will also take stock of the situation at the ground on Friday.
The CISF provides a counter-terrorist security cover to the Jaipur airport apart from 67 other such civil aviation facilities in the country.
Police said a case has been registered against the SpiceJet employee under sections 121 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (assaulting public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Reportedly, the woman had married Ravi Bheel, against her family's wishes which angered the family. To escape the family's anger the couple fled to a different location and stayed there. The family of the deceased kidnapped the woman after they learned the couple were going to a bank in Madhya Pradesh.
Soon after the woman was kidnapped, her husband approached the police to file a complaint. However, as the police took action the family had already cremated the woman and 80 percent of her body was burnt when police reached the spot. Police have sent the body to the forensics for further investigation.&nbsp;
