PM Modi addresses AI's impact on jobs at France summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in France attending an AI Summit, where he addressed a pressing question: Can Artificial Intelligence (AI) replace human jobs? Modi emphasized that while technology alters the nature of work, it historically does not eliminate it. Instead, he highlighted the need for heavy investment in "skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future."

Modi expressed optimism about AI’s potential to enhance various sectors, including education and agriculture, contributing to a quicker journey toward sustainable energy goals. He acknowledged that AI is reshaping politics, the economy, security, and society. Highlighting the necessity for international cooperation, he advocated for global efforts to establish governance frameworks and standards that reflect shared values, address potential risks, and build trust in AI technologies.

During his three-day visit, Modi is co-chairing the AI Action Summit in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron. The trip includes bilateral talks and engagements with business leaders. Modi received a warm welcome from India’s diaspora in Paris, despite the chilly weather, expressing gratitude for their support and achievements.

Modi and Macron are set to engage in discussions in both restricted and extended formats and will speak at the India-France CEO’s Forum. Modi highlighted the visit's significance in evaluating the progress on the 2047 Horizon Roadmap for the India-France strategic partnership, underscoring his strong rapport with Macron.
