The Maharashtra cabinet took a significant step towards digitisation on Tuesday by going completely paperless, with iPads distributed to all ministers.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal told PTI that cabinet agendas, notes, and minutes of previous meetings will now be shared via email with ministers and the Chief Minister. These documents can be accessed directly on the provided iPads.
The state's Information Technology Department conducted a briefing for the ministers on how to use the iPads effectively. Each minister received login credentials, including passwords for the devices and their official email accounts.
Presentations (PPTs) made during cabinet meetings, as well as records of past cabinet decisions, will also be available through their emails.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has pressed around 200 maintenance vans and 1,000 workers and officials into the campaign across the national capital.
"Today a historic initiative has started across Delhi. In a single day, the work of filling 3,400 potholes has started on 1,400 km of PWD roads. This is no ordinary repair, it is an honest attempt to make Delhi safe, beautiful and accessible," said Verma in a post on X in Hindi.

Several ministers and the BJP MLAs hailed the government's initiative and posted pictures on social media platforms of pothole repair work going on in their respective constituencies.
"These potholes were damaging the roads for the past several years. Hence, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took this decision that in one day 3,400 potholes will be filled," Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters.
The PWD earlier identified and geo-tagged all potholes on the 1,400 kilometers of road network under its jurisdiction just before the monsoon.
Around 60 per cent of the potholes had been filled by 12 pm, said officials.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that 'kanwar' committees will receive financial assistance through direct benefit transfer without any tendering process, saying it will eliminate corruption.
Following a cabinet meeting, Gupta announced at a press conference that a committee headed by minister Kapil Mishra will decide on the upper limit of the assistance. The Mukhyamnatri Dharmik Utsav Committee will also have four other MLAs.
She also announced that the Delhi government will also bear the cost of up to 1,200 units of electricity to the 'kanwar' camps.
"We have taken a historic decision. Earlier, tendering was done for putting up tents and only two or three people applied. They got the tender and then sublet the work. Even till last day, tents were not erected and kanwar committees would get into trouble," Gupta said, adding that "crores" would be spent on the exercise.
"Ending all corruption, we have decided that all 'kanwar' committees involved in the process will get direct benefit transfer. There will be no contractor involved and no tendering process," she said at a press conference.
Gupta said the committees that are not registered will have time till July 30 to apply for permission.
"For traffic and security also we will have meetings and we will ensure that people face no problems. Civil defence volunteers will also help in the camps," she said.

We have to take steps to stop this." She said, "External affairs come under the Indian government. Diplomatically, peacefully, we must take initiative so that war stops." Banerjee clarified, "I am not authorised to speak on external affairs and diplomatic issues. This is my personal view as a concerned citizen of this world." Speaking on the flood situation in Ghatal sub-division in Paschim Medinipur district, she said, despite repeated reminders, the central agency DVC is "not undertaking dredging operations" at its dams in Maithon and Panchet.
She accused the DVC of releasing large volumes of water from its dams during the rainy season "without informing" the West Bengal government.
"They are releasing water without informing us. They have not conducted dredging operations for many years. Now, DVC has the accumulated capacity to store one lakh cusec of water in its dams. Had they undertaken dredging operations regularly, four lakh cusecs of water could have been stored in their dams and such overflowing in vast parts of south Bengal won't recur," Banerjee said in the assembly.
West Bengal Irrigation Minister Manas Bhuniya had on Monday said nearly two lakh people have been affected in the floods at Ghatal sub-division in Paschim Medinipur district and asserted that the government was taking every possible step to help the marooned people.
Bhuniya had alleged that the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) aggravated the situation by "failing to regulate the release of water" from its dams in Jharkhand despite requests from the West Bengal irrigation department.
The minister had told reporters that he wrote to the chairman of the organisation to exercise caution while discharging additional water in future.

With the war against drugs &ldquo;Yudh Nashian Virudh&rdquo; waged on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state completed 114 days, Punjab Police on Monday arrested 126 drug smugglers and recovered 5.3 kg heroin, 200 grams opium and Rs 8850 drug money from their possession. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 18,843 in just 114 days.
The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav simultaneously in all 28 Police districts of the state.
Notably, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has asked the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendent of Police to make Punjab drug free state. The Punjab government has also constituted a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor the war against drugs.
Divulging details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla informed that over 200 Police teams, comprising over 1500 police personnel, under the supervision of 99 gazetted officers have conducted raids at as many as 506 locations across the state leading to the registration of 85 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. Police teams have also checked as many as 540 suspicious persons during the day-long operation, he added.
The Special DGP said that with the state government has enforced a three-pronged strategy&mdash; Enforcement, Deaddiction and Prevention (EDP)&mdash; to eradicate drugs from the state, the Punjab Police as part of &lsquo;De-addiction&rsquo; has convinced 47 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.

The Minister stated that a total project estimate of ₹5.93 crore had been approved for the construction of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan in Tarn Taran. Out of this, ₹60 lakh has already been released, and the remaining ₹5.33 crore will be transferred shortly to the Public Works Department&rsquo;s account. She added that the construction of the boundary wall of the Bhawan has already been completed, and the remaining work will now be expedited with high quality, transparency, and within the stipulated timeline.
Highlighting the broader vision, Dr. Baljit Kaur shared that Ambedkar Bhawans have already been constructed in 17 districts of Punjab. These centers serve as &lsquo;single-window&rsquo; facilities where multiple government services are made available under one roof for the benefit of marginalized, backward, and economically weaker communities. In addition, the process of identifying and acquiring suitable land is underway for the construction of similar Bhawans in five other districts &mdash; SAS Nagar, Barnala, Fazilka, Pathankot, and Malerkotla.
Issuing directions to the department officials, the Cabinet Minister emphasized that the construction of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan in Tarn Taran must be completed with the highest quality standards, full transparency, and strictly within the approved timeframe so that the people of the region can avail of its benefits at the earliest.

The Finance Minister also revealed that the Punjab government has brought forth a comprehensive policy for the clubbing and de-clubbing of plots. This policy directly addresses the long-standing demands of industrial stakeholders to merge or divide adjacent plots, thereby optimising land use and supporting project expansion. He also announced that the state government is actively planning to introduce a policy for the conversion of leasehold plots to freehold.&nbsp;
Underlining the simplification of the CLU process by the state government, Finance Minister Cheema said that the requirement for standalone industries to obtain CLU permissions in permissible zones has been removed. He said that this significant change would reduce both the time and complexity involved in establishing new industrial units across the state.&nbsp;
Reiterating the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government&rsquo;s unwavering commitment to maximising industrial growth, the Finance Minister said that incentives worth Rs 180 crore have already been provided to the industrial sector during the first two months of the financial year 2025-26. He affirmed that the state government consistently endeavours not only to encourage existing industries but also to attract new enterprises to bolster the state&rsquo;s industrial ecosystem.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh shared a media report on X which claimed that the 1% cut in repo rate by the RBI has forced banks to reduce their deposit rates, pushing savings account interest rates to a 25-year low.
"In the last 11 years, the Modi government has left no stone unturned in ruining the country's rapidly growing economy. Starting with demonetization, new experiments are being conducted on the people of the country every year, they are being tortured in new ways everyday," Ramesh said in a post on X in Hindi.
The interest rates on savings accounts have reached the lowest level in 25 years, which is directly hitting the pockets of the elderly and the common citizens, he said.
"Banks have already closed their doors for the common people, after this they will be available only to the very rich capitalist friends," the Congress leader said.
"Prime Minister, the well-being of the people of the country is your first responsibility, but you are busy in increasing the wealth of your capitalist friends by diverting the money of the people of the country to their companies through the stock market," Ramesh alleged.
This is a huge injustice and deception towards the people of the country, he said.
The Congress has been attacking the government over its handling of the economy, claiming the issues of rising prices, decreasing private investment and stagnating wages were hitting the common people hard.

A Pakistani intruder was shot dead early Wednesday morning by BSF troops along the international border at Pathankot in Punjab, officials said.
Border Security Force (BSF) personnel noticed some suspicious movement in the Border Outpost Tashpatan area along the IB.
Despite being challenged by the BSF troops, the intruder did not stop after crossing over onto this side, they said.
The intruder was subsequently shot dead and his identity is being ascertained, the officials said.
A spokesperson of the BSF, Jammu frontier, said a strong protest will be lodged with Pakistan Rangers over the incident.
The BSF guards the India-Pakistan international border, including a 553-km stretch in Punjab.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to seek the Centre's support for a pro-growth approach in tax devolution among states by the 16th Finance Commission.
During the meeting, Siddaramaiah briefed Sitharaman on Karnataka's significant losses under the 15th Finance Commission award, an official statement said.
The state's share in tax devolution declined from 4.713 per cent to 3.647 per cent -- a reduction of over 23 per cent. Karnataka was also denied Rs 11,495 crore in special grants, resulting in a total loss of Rs 80,000 crore during the award period.
The chief minister attributed this decline primarily to the over-reliance on the income-distance criterion, which received 45 per cent weightage under the 15th Finance Commission.
Karnataka has requested the 16th Finance Commission to reduce the weightage for income-distance by 20 percentage points and reallocate it to fiscal contribution -- the state's share in national GDP.
The state has also proposed discontinuing Revenue Deficit Grants in their current format, arguing they contradict fiscal discipline principles outlined in the FRBM framework. Instead, Karnataka suggested redistributing the same amount -- 1.92 per cent of Gross Union Receipts under the 15th Finance Commission -- among all states using the horizontal devolution formula.
Siddaramaiah highlighted the developmental challenges facing Bengaluru, Kalyana Karnataka and Malenadu regions, emphasising that fair and pro-growth devolution would accelerate the state's growth trajectory.
The chief minister clarified that Karnataka's proposals were not a request for special treatment but would improve overall national resource mobilisation and foster cooperative and competitive federalism.
The meeting concluded with Siddaramaiah requesting the finance minister to include these proposals in the Union government's memorandum to the 16th Finance Commission, arguing that growth-friendly devolution would empower all states to contribute effectively to India's development journey.
The Finance Commission gives suggestions on financial relationship between the Centre and states.
The 16th Finance Commission, set up in December 2023 under the chairmanship of Arvind Panagariya, is expected to give its recommendations by October 31, 2025, which will be applicable for a five-year period beginning April 1, 2026.
The 15th Finance Commission headed by N K Singh had suggested that states be given 41 per cent of the divisible tax pool of the Centre for a five-year period from April 2021 to March 2026.

The Tata Group-owned airline flies to 13 cities in the Middle East, operating around 900 flights per week.
In a statement, the carrier said it is progressively resuming its operations to the Middle East from Tuesday as airspaces in the region reopen.
"Our first flight to the region today will be on the Delhi&ndash;Muscat route, followed by services on the Mumbai&ndash;Muscat, Kozhikode&ndash;Muscat, Kozhikode&ndash;Riyadh, and Jaipur&ndash;Jeddah routes," it said.
The airline's flights to key cities in the UAE -- including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah -- as well as other cities in the Middle East, are scheduled from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, IndiGo said its flight services to Gulf countries have stabilised and are operating as scheduled.
"However, as airspace over Iran remains restricted, some flights may take alternate routes, which could result in longer travel times," the carrier said in a post on X.

According to the latest medical bulletin, Achuthanandan is still in the intensive care unit of the private hospital, and a special medical team comprising a cardiologist, nephrologist, neurologist, and others is treating him.

With the US issuing an advisory for its citizens travelling to India, the Congress on Tuesday claimed that it "maligns" the country and demanded that the government should register its protest as well as take a stern view of this at the highest level.
The opposition party also claimed that the Narendra Modi government's foreign policy has completely "fallen flat".
The US has issued an advisory for its citizens travelling to India, urging "increased caution" due to crime and rape, and advising them not to travel to certain parts of central and eastern parts of the country due to terrorism.
The travel advisory issued last week states that "rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India" and violent crimes, including sexual assault, happen at tourist sites and other locations. It added that terrorists, who target tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls and government facilities, may attack with little or no warning.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress' Indira Bhawan headquarters here, party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said the reality is that the US has issued a travel advisory of Level 2 and has advised its women, especially, not to travel alone to India, citing various cases of rapes.
"It also goes on to say that various kinds of crimes, incidents of violence and terror attacks can happen in India. It very categorically mentions that American officials will need permission from the government before their travel to India... This kind of advisory is being issued for India, which will have far-reaching impact on our standing," she said.
"However, nothing of this kind of advisory has been issued for Pakistan, which is a terror country, housing terrorists such as Masood Azhar, Hafiz Saeed, Dawood Ibrahim, etc., they are being provided protection by Pakistan. On the contrary, an advisory is being issued against us while Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir is being invited to enjoy a meal with US President Trump, who has, in turn, hyphenated India and Pakistan," Shrinate said.
She said it is highly objectionable that the Indian prime minister and Pakistan's Army Chief are being hyphenated.
The reality is that in the last 11 years, Prime Minister Modi has spent a disproportionate amount of time pursuing foreign powers, she said.
"From enforceable hugs to 'Howdy Modi', 'Namaste Trump', and 'Ab Ki Baar Trump Sarkaar', to going to the US uninvited. He has done everything possible, and look at what America is doing to us," she said.
"At a time when we need large nations of the world to stand with us, America is issuing travel advisories against us and citing incidents that pertain to the rest of the world. But this really maligns us, and what is the government doing about it? Absolutely nothing. Pin drop silence like always," Shrinate said.
The reality is that Trump has taken credit for the "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan 17 times, she said.
"He (Trump) imposed tariffs on us. He called us an abuser and a fraud. He has put our people in handcuffs and sent them back to India. He is constantly insulting us, and our government chooses to keep quiet. The question arises: what is the cornerstone of our foreign policy? It is to keep India's interest above all," Shrinate said.
"But Mr Modi's foreign policy is to get the right camera angle so that he is shot from the good camera angle wherever he is in the world. Our foreign minister is too busy making reels with laser red eyes. So who do you expect to pursue foreign policy from?" she asked.
Shrinate said she has no qualms in admitting and saying that on one hand, travel advisories are being issued against us but nothing on Pakistan, while "we are completely mute spectators".
"We don't say a word! There are certain aspects which travel advisories have raised which are obviously troublesome, and we should find solutions to them. We should ensure our women are safe, and if every hour, 43 women face a crime against them, then questions will and must be raised," she said.
She claimed the foreign front, the Modi government's foreign policy has completely "fallen flat".
"At a time when we need allies to stand with us, they are issuing travel advisories against us. A travel advisory is very damning, and it impacts the number of tourists that will visit India, the funds generated by tourism, and the level of investments associated with those sectors. So these are very damning advisories. Yet, the Modi government is absolutely silent," she said.
"Therefore, we demand that the Indian government should register its protest and take a stern view of this advisory at the highest level. It is not in good faith, this is not good for our country, and it shows the doublespeak of the US. On one hand you are issuing advisories against us but nothing on Pakistan," Shrinate said.
The US advisory issued on June 16 also tells US citizens not to travel to parts of Central and East India "due to terrorism".
"Maoist extremist groups, or 'Naxalites', are active in a large area of India that spans from eastern Maharashtra and northern Telangana through western West Bengal,&rdquo; the advisory said.
US government employees working in India are required to obtain permission prior to travel to most areas in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Odisha. It said permission is not required for the capital of these states.
