Four injured in Bhubaneswar Mo Bus accident near Raj Mahal Square, locals demand action

At least four people were injured, and multiple vehicles were damaged in a series of accidents involving a Mo Bus near Raj Mahal Square in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning. The incident caused chaos and tension in the area, prompting demands for stricter action against public transport drivers.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred when an electric Mo Bus, moving on the Master Canteen-Raj Mahal Square route, suddenly applied brakes. A non-AC Mo Bus on Route 26 crashed into it from behind, leading to a chain reaction as three cars in line also collided. Passengers in both buses and the cars sustained injuries and were rushed to the Capital Hospital for treatment.

Locals alleged that the electric Mo Bus was speeding recklessly and stopped abruptly on the busy road. They raised concerns about the driver's conduct, questioning if he was in an inebriated state.

The mishap led to traffic chaos for about 30 minutes before a police team arrived to pacify the crowd and clear the road. Tension prevailed in the area as residents criticized the increasing number of accidents involving Mo Buses in the city.

Demanding a permanent solution, locals staged a protest, calling for stricter enforcement of safety regulations and action against the driver. It’s noteworthy that the state government recently capped Mo Bus speeds at 40 kmph to prevent such incidents.
