Kol community known for bravery and historic sacrifices against British: CM Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Monday highlighted the pivotal role of the tribal community, particularly the Kol tribe, in India's history and development.

Speaking at the State-Level Kol Tribal Convention in Beohari, CM Yadav stated, “The tribal community has a rich and glorious history and has played a significant role in India’s independence and development.”

He emphasized the bravery and seriousness of the Kol community since ancient times and noted their contributions in resisting British rule.

“Many heroes from the tribal society made supreme sacrifices in the struggle against the British to protect water, forests, and land,” he said.

Land Rights and Educational Support

Announcing major initiatives, the Chief Minister said the state government would conduct surveys in all Kol-populated regions lacking land titles and issue pattas accordingly.

He also revealed plans to install a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at the Birsa Munda Medical College in Shahdol, and a statue of Banabhatta at the Bansagar Reservoir.

Dr. Yadav further declared comprehensive support for tribal education, stating that the government would bear the cost of coaching and education for tribal children.

“Hostels with 100 beds each for boys and girls, along with pre-exam training centers, will be set up in all divisions at a cost of Rs. 24 crore each,” he announced.

Praise for Prime Minister Modi’s Leadership

During his address, CM Yadav credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s rising global influence and inclusive development approach.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the country's global stature has risen significantly,” he said, adding, “The Prime Minister has worked tirelessly for the development of every section of society and is committed to the progress of the poor, youth, women, and farmers – the four core missions of the Modi government.”

He also noted that 4 crore individuals have already received permanent housing under various schemes, and surveys will be conducted to cover those left out.

Support for Ladli Behnas and Tribal Protection

In a special gesture, the Chief Minister announced a Raksha Bandhan gift of Rs. 250 for the state’s ‘Ladli Behnas’.

He assured strict action in cases involving false accusations against tribals.

Furthermore, he announced plans to integrate Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life story into the school curriculum and to name Kanya Shiksha Parisars in 13 districts after Mata Shabari.

Remembering Tribal Heroes

Dr. Yadav paid homage to several tribal icons, including Raja Bhubhut Singh, Budhu Bhagat, and Madara Mehto, noting their fierce resistance during the 1831–32 rebellions against British rule. He remarked on their cultural devotion, recalling, “Kol members built a hut for Lord Shri Ram.”

He also referred to earlier cabinet meetings held in Pachmarhi and Singrampur to honor tribal figures such as Raja Bhubhut Singh and Rani Durgavati.

The event began with traditional rituals including lamp lighting, girl worship, and the garlanding of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s statue. It was also addressed by Shri Ramlal Rautel, Chairman of Kol Development Authority, and local MLA Shri Sharad Kol.

Major Announcements for Shahdol District

Several development initiatives were announced for Shahdol district, including:

- Rs. 28 crore for improving Shahdol city's drinking water system

Cultural performers received Rs. 5,000 each, and various welfare benefits were distributed to beneficiaries and self-help groups. He also toured the exhibition organized at the convention site.

The event was attended by Deputy CM and Shahdol District In-Charge Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla, Tribal Welfare Minister Dr. Kunwar Vijay Shah, Sidhi MP Dr. Rajesh Mishra, MLAs Shri Jay Singh Maravi and Smt.
