What's Statue of Equality, unveiled by PM Modi? | Saint Ramanujacharya

One of the largest seated statues in the world was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 5.

At a mega ceremony in Telangana's Hyderabad, PM Modi inaugurated a 216-foot-tall statue of Ramanujacharya, dubbed the Statue of Equality. Ramanujacharya was an 11th-century Hindu saint.

The statue is reportedly made of 'panchaloha', an amalgamation of five metals - gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc. The statue is mounted on 'Bhadra Vedi', a building which has a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian texts, a theatre, and an educational gallery.

The structure was reportedly conceptualised by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram.

The unveiling of the statue was part of the 1000th birth anniversary celebrations of the saint. A 12-day fest was reportedly organised for the Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi Samaroham.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi invoked the other mega structure which was unveiled by him in 2018 - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Statue of Unity - the world's tallest statue.
