Kerala HC to Watch 'Janaki Vs State' Amid Certification Delay

Kerala HC to view 'Janaki Vs State of Kerala' before ruling on its certification delay due to the name 'Janaki', associated with Goddess Sita. Screening scheduled July 5.

Kerala HC to Watch 'Janaki Vs State' Amid Certification Delay

Kochi, July 2 (PTI): The Kerala High Court has decided it will be beneficial to watch 'Janaki Vs State of Kerala' (JSK), starring Suresh Gopi, before proceeding with the case involving the delay in its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Justice N Nagaresh emphasized the necessity of viewing the film before making a decision.

The court has instructed the film's producers to arrange a screening on July 5, Saturday at 10 am and has set a subsequent hearing for July 9.

The directive followed a petition from Cosmos Entertainments, the production company behind the film.

The producers consented to arrange the film's screening at Lal Media in Palarivattom, Kochi.

During the hearing, the CBFC requested additional time to submit their reply affidavit.

The court, however, stated it could not allow unwarranted extensions for filing a reply.

Previously, the court asked the Board to provide a written decision from its revising committee, which has delayed the film's certification due to the title character's name, 'Janaki.'

The court questioned the Board about any issues with the name 'Janaki.'

Sources indicate that the CBFC's revising committee verbally suggested altering the character's name since 'Janaki' is synonymous with Goddess Sita.
