Indian Army foils infiltration attempt in J&K's Baramulla, eliminates two terrorists

The Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists in the Uri Nala's Sarjeevan area of Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.

According to an official statement from the Chinar Corps, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate through the Line of Control (LoC) but were intercepted by alert army personnel, leading to an intense firefight.

The statement revealed that a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores were recovered from the terrorists following the exchange of fire. The operation is still ongoing as security forces continue to ensure the area remains secure.

"OP TIKKA, Baramulla: On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 UI terrorists tried to infiltrate through the general area Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, Baramulla. The alert troops on LC challenged and intercepted them, resulting in a firefight. Operation is in progress," the Chinar Corps shared on social media platform X.

The Corps further reported, "Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation. A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists. Operation is in progress."

This operation follows a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which took place earlier on Wednesday. The attack, which targeted tourists in the popular area of Anantnag, led to widespread shock and condemnation across the nation. Security forces have since launched search operations to locate the perpetrators behind the attack.

The security situation in Kashmir has intensified following the Pahalgam attack, with visuals showing deserted streets in the normally bustling tourist town. Tourists have started cutting their trips short due to the rising tensions. Sameer Bhardwaj, a tourist from Delhi, expressed his decision to return early, stating he would not continue his planned visit to Pahalgam.

Amid the turmoil, political parties, traders' unions, and social organizations in Jammu and Kashmir have called for a complete shutdown to condemn the attack and show solidarity with the victims' families. Candlelight marches were held in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch, and Kupwara, as locals mourned the tragic loss of life. Bajrang Dal workers in Jammu also staged a protest, while residents of Khod village in the Akhoor area participated in their own candlelight march to express their outrage.

The terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, has triggered widespread outrage across India. The attack, which was attributed to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, is one of the deadliest in the region since the Pulwama attack in 2019. The country remains united in its condemnation of the violence and in its calls for justice for the victims.
