India Boosts Army's Anti-Terror Capabilities with New Contracts

New Delhi, June 24 (PTI) — The Ministry of Defence has successfully signed 13 contracts totaling Rs 1,981 crore aimed at boosting the operational readiness of the Indian Army in combating cross-border terrorism through an emergency procurement mechanism.

As part of this acquisition initiative, officials confirmed that the Army's capabilities in integrated drone detection and interdiction systems are being significantly upgraded.

India is persistently fortifying the Indian Army's counter-terrorism grid to effectively tackle Pakistan-supported terrorism threats in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a precise reaction to the recent terror assault in Pahalgam, New Delhi executed strikes on nine terror sites across Pakistani territories on May 7.

The defence ministry is in the process of procuring essential military systems including low-level lightweight radars, very short-range air defense missiles and their launchers, remotely piloted aerial vehicles, and loitering munitions with vertical take-off and landing capabilities.

Additionally, various models of drones, along with bulletproof jackets and ballistic helmets, are being acquired through this emergency procurement mechanism.

The ministry announced that it had finalized contracts amounting to Rs 1,981.90 crore against the sanctioned outlay of Rs 2,000 crore for the Indian Army.

An official statement highlighted, "In a notable step towards bolstering the Army's readiness in counter-terrorism operations, the Ministry of Defence has signed 13 contracts under the emergency procurement mechanism."

"These contracts, valued at Rs 1,981.90 crore, were completed against the overall sanctioned outlay of Rs 2,000 crore for the Indian Army," the ministry specified.

These procurements, executed using fast-track methods under the emergency procurement mandate, are designed to enhance situational awareness, lethality, mobility, and protection for troops involved in counter-terror environments, the statement added.

The acquisitions were expedited within tight timelines to ensure quick enhancement of capabilities, it noted.
