Hours after IndiGo scare, Air India Express flight faces 'burning smell' issue, diverted to Muscat

A second air scare in one day hit Indian airlines on 17 July. Hours after an IndiGo plane suffered technical issues, an Air India Express flight had to be diverted after a burning smell was reported.

The burning smell reportedly came from a vent in the forward galley. The Calicut-to-Dubai flight was diverted to Muscat.

Earlier in the day, an IndiGo plane flying from Sharjah to Hyderabad had to make an emergency landing in Pakistan's Karachi. IndiGo's Airbus plane had a system fault in Engine 2 on the right side of the fuselage, as per an NDTV report quoting sources.

All passengers were safe, an IndiGo sent another plane to Karachi to complete the journey.

Recently, a spate of such technical issues hit SpiceJet planes, leading India's civil aviation watchdog DGCA to issue a show-cause notice to the airline.
