AAP Gujarat prepares for local elections, Kejriwal-Mann to address key issues

Gujarat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Isudan Gadhvi on Sunday addressed the media, detailing the party’s priorities and preparations ahead of the upcoming local self-government elections.

Gadhvi said that during their visit to Gujarat, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will address issues affecting the poor, deprived, exploited, and tribal communities. “They will address the gathering on these issues,” he added.

He noted that the party’s screening committee has held three days of meetings, during which discussions with senior leadership took place.

A first list of candidates is expected to be released soon. Gadhvi said the party follows its own strategy and highlighted that discussions for many seats are ongoing in a second phase, covering over 10,000 seats across municipalities and district panchayats. Detailed deliberations will take place during the upcoming meetings with Kejriwal, Mann, the state leadership, and various committees.

Gadhvi also emphasised that, for the first time, the party has adopted an open process to allow common citizens to contest elections. “Applications were invited from candidates, and many people have come forward,” he said, describing it as a “new beginning” for wider representation.

While referring to practices in other parties, Gadhvi contrasted AAP’s approach by stating that it provides equal opportunities to all candidates and that the party will contest elections independently, without forming alliances.

He further said that a decision regarding the Umreth Assembly by-election will also be made soon and will be discussed with Kejriwal and Mann during their visit.
