Enhanced Security Setup for Amarnath Yatra Underway

Srinagar, Jun 25 (PTI) Security measures are being bolstered for the annual Amarnath Yatra to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage, Kashmir Police Chief V K Birdi announced on Wednesday. The initiative includes multi-layered and extensive security arrangements compared to previous years. Addressing reporters in Anantnag, the Inspector General of Kashmir Police emphasized the enhanced precautions.

Birdi reviewed the security protocols at the Nunwan base camp along the Pahalgam route, noting that the pilgrimage is set to commence on July 3. The security strategy for the 38-day pilgrimage is organized into various tiers. On Wednesday, drills were carried out at each level to ensure readiness for any potential threats.

"The primary purpose of these drills is to sharpen our alertness and improve the execution of our protocols during emergencies," noted Birdi. These exercises are conducted at strategic locations such as camps and roads along the pilgrimage routes. This ensures that all security personnel are vigilant and aware of their roles in any situation.

Birdi also acknowledged the vital role of local support in the success of the Yatra. "Local collaboration is crucial for the Yatra's success," he remarked. The local community is eager to assist pilgrims and extend the necessary support.

In preparation, security drills were conducted at key locations, including Pahalgam, Anantnag, and Qazigund in South Kashmir, as well as Pantha Chowk in Srinagar and Sumbal in North Kashmir's Bandipora district. The coordination between forces is aimed at ensuring safety throughout the event.
