Delhi is witnessing a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases with 923 fresh infections recorded on Wednesday, which is highest daily tally since May 30 when 946 cases were reported during the devastating second wave.

Understandably, the Covid-19 positivity rate in the national capital has jumped to 1.29 per cent from 0.19 per cent between December 23 and December 29, according to government data.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority sounded the yellow alert under its Graded Response Action Plan or GRAP on Tuesday, after the Covid positivity rate was recorded above 0.5 per cent in the national capital for two consecutive days.

The next level of GRAP, the ‘amber alert, is declared when the positivity rate is recorded at one per cent or above for two consecutive days.

The response is mostly the same as 'yellow' alert except that malls and shops of non-essential goods and services will be allowed to open from 10 am to 6 pm.

The Delhi Metro will run at 33 per cent of its seating capacity in Amber alert while dining facilities in restaurants will not be allowed, but take away service will continue.

The DDMA, at its meeting on Wednesday, decided that the Covid-related restrictions imposed under the yellow alert will continue for the time being and the authorities will monitor the situation for a while before deciding on fresh curbs.
