Central Bureau of Narcotics Seizes Counterfeit Cough Syrup in Lucknow

Lucknow, July 11 (PTI) — In a significant operation against the illegal drug trade, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) apprehended a man and confiscated over 5,300 bottles of counterfeit cough syrup from a residence in Lucknow, authorities reported on Friday.

The seized syrup was discovered to be adulterated with prohibited sedatives and deceptively branded to imitate legitimate products from esteemed pharmaceutical brands, according to a high-ranking official.

"Based on precise intelligence, officers conducted a raid at a residence on Thursday, resulting in the seizure of 5,353 bottles of cough syrup," stated Deputy Narcotics Commissioner Praveen Bali to PTI.

"In an unusual method, the syrup contained NRx medicines such as Alprazolam and Clonazepam, and was mislabeled as Codeine Syrup using counterfeit labels of reputable companies," Bali explained.

"The suspect did not have any legal documents or licenses to store or distribute such medicines. The entire cache was seized under the NDPS Act, 1985, and one individual has been taken into custody," Bali added.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to uncover the network involved in this illegal drug trade.
