SpiceJet gives ₹5,000 compensation to passenger stuck in the loo, internet slams airline

Social media users slammed the airline for the meagre compensation offered for the man's ordeal.

SpiceJet gives ₹5,000 compensation to passenger stuck in the loo, internet slams airline

The SpiceJet passenger who got stuck in the lavatory for more than an hour, has been offered ₹5,000 as compensation by the airline. Internet users, however, do not approve.

Criticising Spicejet for the meagre payment, a user posted on X, "Penalty of sitting on tarmac is ₹1.2 crore but compensation for sitting on toilet seat is only ₹5000. It is unfair."

A 37-year-old software professional was stuck in the toilet on board a Mumbai-Bengaluru flight on January 16. In a conversation with the Times of India, he shared his plans to sue the airline and lodge a complaint with DGCA for putting his life at risk.

Earlier, SpiceJet said, "On January 16, a passenger, unfortunately, got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock. Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger."

A note that crew members passed under the toilet door to calm the stuck passenger also went viral. The note read, "Sir, we tried our best to open the door. However, we could not open. Do not panic, we are landing in a few minutes. So please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic."
