AP Chief Secretary Emphasizes Efficiency in Power Generation

Amaravati, July 29 (PTI) - In a strategic push to enhance efficiency and ensure robust financial management, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Vijayanand emphasized the importance of operational precision and disciplined execution within Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO).

Vijayanand conducted a comprehensive analysis of thermal, hydel, and solar power generation alongside senior officials from APGENCO, Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited (APPDCL), and Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) on Monday.

"APGENCO must align its focus towards operational efficiency, ensure timely execution of projects, and adhere to prudent financial management in order to accommodate the escalating energy needs of the state," Vijayanand stated, as per an official release.

The chief secretary highlighted the significant advances made, reporting a 10 percent growth in thermal generation and an impressive 95 percent increase in hydel generation.

He also mandated the undertaking of preventive maintenance across all thermal units statewide to uphold performance efficacy.

Ensuring sufficient coal stock emerged as a pivotal agenda item during the review meeting.

The chief secretary commended the Andhra Pradesh State Load Despatch Centre's (APSLDC) unified backdown coordination efforts at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (RTPP) units to address load variability issues.

Vijayanand evaluated the progression of key projects including Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) Stage-V, RTPP Stage-IV, and Sri Damodara Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) Stage-I, underscoring the urgency to expedite commissioning schedules.

Immediate resolutions were called for specific bottlenecks identified in procurement, manpower distribution, and vendor coordination during the meeting.

The state of Polavaram (960 MW), Lower Sileru (230 MW), and six pumped storage schemes with a combined output of over 6,000 MW were also assessed.

The chief secretary instructed APGENCO to expedite detailed project reports (DPRs), land acquisition, and statutory clearances to prevent delays in hydel and pumped storage ventures.

Turning to financial matters, he evaluated coal dues, vendor payments, and debt obligations, directing finance teams to prioritize critical payments and maintain proper cash flow.

Further direction was given for weekly monitoring and interdepartmental coordination with a focus on achieving self-reliance and resilience in the Andhra Pradesh power sector.
