Amit Shah Visits Tamil Nadu for BJP Strategy Sessions Amid Election Prep

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) - Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to conduct BJP organisational meetings in Tamil Nadu on Sunday as the party intensifies its political strategies ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the southern state, scheduled for less than a year from now. Party sources reveal that Shah will preside over a core committee meeting, which includes prominent state leaders, followed by discussions with office-bearers from the mandal, district, and state levels. Before embarking on his political engagements, he is also expected to offer prayers at the renowned Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. The BJP has allied with the main opposition party AIADMK to mount a challenge against the ruling DMK-led alliance in the region. The AIADMK is considered the primary player in this coalition, which may include smaller parties, as the DMK campaigns vigorously to portray the BJP as harmful to the state's interests, particularly accusing it of attempting to impose Hindi. Additionally, the DMK has raised concerns over potential political disadvantages for southern states in a forthcoming delimitation exercise due to their achievements in controlling population growth compared to northern states. The BJP has countered these claims, accusing the DMK of using them as diversion tactics to draw attention away from alleged corruption and poor governance under Chief Minister M K Stalin's tenure. Amit Shah has previously assured that any delimitation process will safeguard the interests of the southern states.
