Amarnath Yatra Suspended Due to Extreme Weather in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 30 (PTI): In response to heavy rainfall across Kashmir, authorities have temporarily halted the Amarnath Yatra along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, a senior official has confirmed.

The yatra will also remain suspended from Jammu on Thursday due to persistent adverse weather conditions.

"The Shri Amarnathji Yatra has been suspended for 30.07.2025 from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps," announced the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) of Jammu and Kashmir on its X platform.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, stated that heavy rains since early Wednesday morning have led to the closure of tracks from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps.

He elaborated that the heavy rainfall in the yatra area has disrupted the movement of pilgrims from the base camps. Consequently, it has been decided that no convoys will be allowed to proceed towards the base camps Baltal and Nunwan from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, on July 31, 2025," the DIPR noted.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, added, "In light of the unfavorable weather conditions on the yatra routes, as a measure of abundant precaution, the ongoing Amarnath Yatra convoy will not depart from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu on July 31." He emphasized that due to the inclement weather, cohort movement towards the base camps in Kashmir has been significantly affected, hence the decision to restrict convoy movements from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, on July 31 was made.
