AIADMK Urges CBI Probe into Ajithkumar's Custodial Death in Sivaganga

Chennai, Jul 1 (PTI) – The opposition AIADMK has called for a CBI investigation into the custodial death of Ajithkumar in Sivaganga, citing eroded public trust in the state police. Chief Minister M K Stalin has asserted that measures have been taken in response to the incident, which includes the apprehension of five police officers.

AIADMK leader and Opposition head, Edappadi K Palaniswami, criticized Chief Minister Stalin for what he described as a 'drama', expressing disbelief in the administration's handling of the situation. Referring to reports, Palaniswami highlighted findings from Ajithkumar's post-mortem, which allegedly revealed multiple injuries, labeling it a "murder due to police brutality."

In a social media post, Palaniswami stated, "While some media might be convinced by your performances like convening review meetings or shifting the case to the CB-CID, neither the people nor we buy into this charade." He accused the DMK government of failing to ensure public safety.

Palaniswami added, "There is no faith among the people in the deceptive police FIR. As such, this matter should be handed over to the CBI." He also held Chief Minister Stalin accountable and demanded explanations.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay has also pushed for a Special Investigation Team to examine the issue. Many questions linger regarding Ajithkumar's demise, he remarked in a post on 'X.'

At a press conference, CM Stalin assured that actions have been taken concerning the death of the security guard. "Measures have been implemented, arrests have been made...action has been initiated against senior officials as well," he stated, noting that the district police chief of Sivaganga has been placed on "compulsory wait" due to the incident.

Ajithkumar, hailing from Tiruppuvanam in Sivaganga, was reportedly apprehended by local police in connection to a theft case earlier.
