S. Jaishankar Reaches Out Post Ahmedabad Air India Crash

New Delhi, Jun 13 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday stated he is in communication with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, as well as his Canadian and Portuguese counterparts, following the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.

The aircraft, which crashed on Thursday, was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens.

Air India confirmed that out of the 241 passengers on board, 241 were killed in the crash. One person survived and is receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained.

"In touch with FS @DavidLammy of UK, FM @PauloRangel_pt of Portugal, and FM @AnitaAnandMP of Canada regarding the Ahmedabad plane crash. Expressed our profound condolences and offered fullest support in this hour of grief," Jaishankar mentioned in a post on X.

At least 265 people were killed on Thursday when the London-bound Air India plane collided with a medical college complex in Ahmedabad, bursting into flames shortly after takeoff, an official disclosed. The toll of the dead in what is described as the country's most severe air disaster in recent memory also included individuals on the ground. The external affairs minister was on an official European visit when the Boeing 737 Dreamliner tragedy occurred.
