West Bengal's Student Credit Card Scheme Surpasses 1 Lakh Loan Approvals

Kolkata, Nov 28: In a notable achievement, the Student Credit Card scheme in West Bengal has surpassed a significant milestone, with over one lakh loan approvals.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made the announcement on Friday, highlighting the effectiveness of the initiative aimed at bolstering higher education by allowing students to access loans up to Rs 10 lakh.

This scheme offers loans at a nominal interest rate, with the entire interest burden being shouldered by the state government.

"I am pleased to announce that the number of sanctioned cases under our Student Credit Card Scheme has surpassed the landmark figure of 1,00,000," Banerjee stated in a post on X.

She expressed her hopes that the scheme will continue to support "budding talents" in achieving their academic and career objectives.

Banerjee offered her best wishes to all students for a "very prosperous future."

"In this flagship scheme of our government, the students are provided education loans up to Rs 10 lakh at a very nominal interest rate, with the interest subvention or subsidy being entirely borne by the state government," she elaborated.

"The scheme will continue to assist budding talents in reaching their desired goals," Banerjee added.

Launched in 2021, the Student Credit Card Scheme aims to make education more accessible by easing the financial burden on students who wish to study in India or abroad.
