Prabhas promotes ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ during IPL match; says ‘Cricket bhi ek yudh hai’ | Watch

Megastar Prabhas surprised fans of cinema and cricket by appearing as Bhairava from 'Kalki 2898 AD' in an IPL promo during the Lucknow Super Giants VS Mumbai Indians IPL match on April 30.

The promo, aired on national television, increased anticipation for the film.

‘Cricket bhi ek yudh hai. Saansein thaam lo. Ye IPL ka maha match hein. Kal ke liye aaj khelo (Cricket is also like a war. Hold your breath. This is a grand match in IPL. For tomorrow, play today)!’ Prabhas says as he walks through what appears like a futuristic set.

Dressed in futuristic armour, the actor casually brushes aside soldiers in a car as he speaks to the camera.

While the promo doesn't provide significant updates about 'Kalki 2898 AD', the glimpse has ignited social media, with fans making the video go viral.

Earlier, the grand reveal of Amitabh Bachchan's character as Ashwatthama during previous IPL broadcasts received immense love.

Recently, the film's creators announced a new release date for 'Kalki 2898 AD', now scheduled for June 27. The film's official handle shared a new poster featuring Deepika, Prabhas, and Amitabh standing together in a vast desert-like setting to announce the news.

Nag Ashwin addressed comparisons between 'Kalki 2898 AD' and 'Dune', attributing similarities to the presence of sand. He explained at the VFX Summit in Hyderabad, ‘Whenever there’s sand, it’ll look like Dune.’

Previously, at the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon, Nag had discussed the film's concept, stating, ‘The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD, spanning 6000 years. We imagined unique worlds while keeping the essence Indian and avoiding a Blade Runner-like aesthetic.’

'Kalki 2898 AD' garnered significant attention following its remarkable debut at San Diego Comic-Con last year, receiving widespread global acclaim. Directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the multilingual film is a mythology-inspired sci-fi extravaganza set in the future, slated for a worldwide release on June 27.
