Nagarjuna cancels Maldives trip after remark against PM Modi, plans Lakshadweep visit

Megastar Nagarjuna had plans to vacation in the Maldives on January 17 after wrapping up ‘Big Boss’ and ‘Naa Saami Ranga.’ But now the actor has decided to cancel his trip due to comments made by some ministers from the Maldives about PM Narendra Modi.

Nagarjuna clarified that his decision wasn't influenced by fear, amid the ongoing trend of boycott.

During a conversation with lyricist Chandrabose and lyricist MM Keeravaani on a Telugu Film Producers Council YouTube episode, Nagarjuna stated, ‘I worked tirelessly for 75 days on 'Big Boss' and 'Naa Saami Ranga.' Now, I've canceled my plans and am considering a visit to Lakshadweep next week. It wasn't because of fear but because it's not a healthy situation.’

He added, ‘Whatever they have said or the statements they have made were not healthy at all, and it's not right, and he is our Prime Minister. He is leading 1.5 billion people. He is the leader of 1.5 billion people and whatever they treated is not right… They are facing the repercussions. For every action there is a reaction.’

Nagarjuna also shared his enthusiasm for the scenic beauty of the Bangaram Islands in Lakshadweep, indicating his upcoming visit. He even recommended that MM Keeravani should consider a trip to Lakshadweep soon.

About India-Maldives controversy

The boycott of the Maldives gained momentum following derogatory remarks made by some individuals in the Maldives regarding India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation to visit Indian islands. PM Modi had recently visited the Lakshadweep Islands, sharing pictures of his leisurely time on the beach and engaging in snorkeling activities.

Notably, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) recently made a significant decision to advocate for a boycott of film and television shoots in the Maldives. They issued a notice to their members and others in the industry, urging them to prioritize Indian locations for both work and leisure over the Maldives. Several other celebrities, who were often seen vacationing in the Maldives, have also been promoting Lakshadweep as an attractive alternative destination.
