Classical singer and music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on Tuesday, January 09. Rashid breathed his last breath in a Kolkata hospital at the age of 56. According to reports he was battling prostate cancer for a long time and was kept on ventilator support for the past several days. Last month he was admitted to the hospital, where his condition deteriorated. The singer is known for many beautiful songs including one of the most popular 'Aaoge Jab Tum O Sajna' from 'Jab We Met'.

Ustad Rashid Khan belonged to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana and was the great-grandson of gharana founder Inayat Hussain Khan.

Ustad Rashid Khan was renowned for his immense contribution to the Indian classical vocal and Hindustani classical music. Born on July 1, 1966, in West Bengal, India, he belonged to the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, a school of Hindustani classical music. Ustad Rashid Khan will forever be celebrated for his powerful and soulful renditions, specializing in the khayal and thumri genres. His contribution to Indian classical music has earned him several accolades and awards, making him a respected figure in the musical landscape of India.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over the demise of Ustad Rashid Khan and said that his demise is a loss for the entire country.

Ustad Rashid Khan had sung many Bangla songs too, and was the voice behind popular Bollywood songs 'Tore Bina Mohe Chain Nahi' and 'Aaoge Jab Tu'. The singer had sung songs like 'My Name Is Khan', 'Raaz 3', 'Bapi Bari Jaa'

He has also sung songs for Hindi films like 'Kadambari', 'Shaadi Main Zaroor Aana', 'Manto' and 'Meetin Mass'.
