Year Ender 2022: Lata Mangeshkar to Raju Srivastav: Indian celebrities who died in this year

From musical legends to popular actors, we have lost many eminent celebrities this year. Now, as we are bidding adieu to this year, let us remember some of the legends who left us.

Lata Mangeshkar (28 September 1929 – 06 February 2022)

Also known as the 'Queen of Melody' and the 'Indian Nightingale', the singer died on February 6 from multiple organ failure syndrome. She was 92. The legacy of the singer is truly unmatchable. Lata ji received numerous accolades throughout her career and was awarded the highest civilian award of India, the Bharat Ratna.

Bappi Lahiri (27 November 1952 – 15 February 2022)

Bappi Da, an Indian singer, composer, and record producer, passed away on February 15 in Mumbai at the age of 69 due to obstructive sleep apnea. The late singer got us all grooving to his hit disco numbers like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’, and ‘Oh La La’ among others.

KK (23 August 1968 – 31 May 2022)

Iconic playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away on May 31 at the age of 53. He died of heart attack hours after a live music event at Nazrul Mancha auditorium in Kolkata. Some of his most memorable songs include, ‘Yaaron dosti’ (Pal, 1999) and ‘Tadap tadap ke’ (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, 1999)

Raju Srivastav (25 December 1963 – 21 September 2022)

Raju Srivastav, one of the most famous comedians of the modern era, passed away on September 21 at AIIMS, Delhi. He was hospitalised for over a month after he collapsed following a cardiac arrest on August 10. He became a household name with the show Laughter Challenge and he was known popularly by his stage name Gajodhar Bhaiya.

Sidhu Moose Wala (11 June 1993 – 29 May 2022)

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was a musician, rapper, and songwriter. He was best known for his work in Punjabi music and cinema. He was considered as one of the biggest rising names in the pop industry. He was killed on May 29 in Jawaharke village in Mansa district.

Pandit Birju Maharaj (4 February 1938 – 16 January 2022)

Pandit Birju Maharaj, a celebrated Kathak dancer, composer and singer, died at the age of 83 at his home in Delhi on January 17 after suffering a heart attack. He was a recipient of the country's second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, and was fondly called Pandit-ji or Maharaj-ji by his disciples. He has composed and choreographed some of the most iconic songs in the industry like 'Kahe Chhed Mohe' from 'Devdas', 'Mohe Rang Do Laal' from 'Bajirao Mastani' among others

Tabassum (9 July 1944 – 18 November 2022)

Tabassum, veteran actor and host of popular Doordarshan talk show ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’, died after suffering a cardiac arrest on November 18. She was 78.
