‘Kalki 2898 AD’ box office update: Prabhas’ film sets new Monday record, grosses Rs 635 crore globally

Nag Ashwin’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, continues to exceed expectations at the box office. The film set new records on Monday, grossing over Rs 84 crore worldwide, with its total collection now surpassing Rs 635 crore.

According to Sacnilk.com, Kalki 2898 AD collected over 34.6 crore net in India on Monday for all languages. The Nag Ashwin-directorial has earned ₹343.6 crore net at the domestic box office during its five-day run and is touted as one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. Its production budget totals over ₹600 crore, or US$75 million.

Earlier, the makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ shared that the film grossed Rs 550 crore globally in its opening weekend. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, released on June 27 in India, opened to a staggering Rs 191 crore.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ created history at the box office by becoming the third biggest opener in Indian cinema. It earned a massive Rs 191 crore globally on its opening day. It achieved the third-highest domestic opening ever, trailing only ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘RRR’. By day five, ‘Baahubali 2’ had earned Rs 705 crore globally, while ‘RRR’ had earned Rs 618 crore. Yash's ‘KGF 2’ had amassed Rs 609.7 crore by the same point.

The film's producers disclosed international earnings: ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ grossed 1,247,662 rubles in Russia, 251,287 euros in Germany, 64,296 euros in Ireland, 53,300 euros in France, 43,220 kroner in Norway, and 81,500 Polish zloty in Poland over its debut weekend. In North America, it amassed $11 million.

About the film

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ blends sci-fi with mythological themes. Prabhas portrays Bhairava, a bounty hunter from Kashi, while Deepika plays SUM-80, a pregnant test subject. Amitabh embodies Ashwatthama from Indian mythology, and Kamal portrays Supreme Yaskin, leader of the Complex. The film follows Bhairava's quest to secure enough units to reside in the Complex, hindered by Ashwatthama.

The cast includes Disha Patani as Roxie, with cameos by Vijay Deverakonda, Mrunal Thakur, Dulquer Salmaan, Faria Abdullah, and others. Set 6000 years post the Mahabharata's Kurukshetra war, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ explores this futuristic narrative.
