Lupita Nyong'o sets the record straight: single after a year of romance buzz with Joshua Jackson

Lupita Nyong'o closes the chapter on her romance with Joshua Jackson, saying, ‘It's just me and my cat, Yoyo.’

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, the Oscar winner revealed her single status and explained that Yoyo—her orange furball—is her one true love.

‘If I'm ever in another relationship, it'll be thanks to him,’ she joked.

‘I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open,’ Lupita added.

Lupita adopted Yoyo from the Best Friends Animal Society in October 2023, the same month she and Joshua were seen together at a Janelle Monáe concert in LA.

Their whirlwind romance peaked with a PDA-packed Mexico trip in March. Then in September, the pair sparked split rumors after Joshua, 46, attended the premiere of Grotesquerie with German model Nastassja Roberts.

Before their romance, Joshua Jackson was married to model Jodie Turner-Smith for four years until she filed for divorce in 2023, citing September 13 as their official separation date. The pair shares a 4-year-old daughter.

As for Lupita Nyong'o, she previously dated sports commentator Selema Masekela for about a year before their 2023 split. In an Instagram Story, Lupita opened up about her heartbreak, saying, ‘I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.’

Reflecting on the breakup, she shared that it was an ‘opportunity to learn’ about herself, noting the importance of recognizing red flags and acting on them.

Despite her candid posts, Lupita now plans to keep her relationships private, stating, ‘It’s hard enough to go through heartbreak privately... when the world has an image of you with someone, it prolongs the healing process.’
