<p>It&rsquo;s a double bonanza for the fans of Superstar Rajinikanth. Their legend celebrates his 75th birthday on Friday, which, incidentally marks his 50 years in cinema as well.</p>
<p>Not surprisingly, the day turned into a carnival for fans and the film industry alike, with special film re-releases, music shows and themed parties marking 50 years of the iconic actor&rsquo;s journey in cinema.</p>
<p>Political honchos, including Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin, took to X to convey their wishes to the legend. "Rajinikanth = A charm that triumphs over age," CM Stalin said.</p>
<p>Wishing his "friend who has captivated audiences from six to sixty for half a century", the CM said, "May he continue to deliver many more successful works and keep his flag of victory flying high with the love and support of the people".</p>
<p>Opposition leader and AIADMK General Secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, called the superstar, the "unshakable sovereign of Tamil cinema". He also said Rajnikanth&rsquo;s uber-famous "style" turns cinema halls into festive arenas.</p>
<p>Late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's close confidante V K Sasikala took to X to convey her "joyful and heartfelt" wishes to her "dear brother" Rajinikanth. Sasikala said she feels "immense pride reflecting on his simple approach and his noble character of treating everyone equally and valuing friendship with all".</p>
<p>To celebrate the double milestone, Rajinikanth&rsquo;s blockbuster &lsquo;Padayappa&rsquo; stormed back into theatres globally, in a remastered 4K version, on Friday.</p>
<p>Overjoyed fans thronged the theatres to celebrate their "god", in usual early-morning "FDFS-style": with cut-outs, milk abhishekams and firecrackers. Cinema chains and single screens in Tamil Nadu and overseas reported strong advance bookings.</p>
<p>In some corners of the world, like in Singapore, the 1992 hit &lsquo;Annamalai&rsquo; has also returned in 4K and Dolby Atmos, with special shows clubbed as part of "50 Golden Years of Rajinism" events, giving fans a double dose of nostalgia on the big screen.</p>
<p>Trade circles and fan clubs projected both re-releases as a tribute to Rajinikanth&rsquo;s enduring box-office pull across generations.</p>
<p>In Chennai, the Mecca for Rajnikanth fans, the day has just begun. Various events, like the marquee "Thalaivar 75 | Rajini Hits", a four-hour live concert featuring band Chords &amp; Strings performing hit songs from Rajinikanth films, are being held so that fans can turn up in themed T-shirts or sporting signature styles from his films.</p>
<p>The city&rsquo;s nightlife too has joined the festivities with Rajinikanth-themed parties like &lsquo;Superstar Birthday&rsquo; and &lsquo;Thalaivaa 75&rsquo; nights, promising DJ sets, live acts and visuals built around Rajinikanth&rsquo;s most popular on-screen moments.</p>
<p>Underlining the star&rsquo;s deep pop-cultural imprint, across Tamil Nadu, fan associations organised welfare activities, cake-cuttings and screenings, while crowds gathered outside the actor&rsquo;s residence to wish him on the landmark birthday.</p>
<p>Apart from politicians, social media platforms were flooded with tributes from fans and colleagues, as the hashtags linked to his 75th birthday, Padayappa&rsquo;s return and 50 years in cinema became the trends of the day.</p>

<p>Featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, the film follows covert intelligence operations set against a backdrop of geopolitical events. Roshan shared a detailed note on Wednesday, calling "Dhurandhar" an example of immersive storytelling.</p>
<p>&ldquo;I love cinema, I love people who climb into a vortex and let the story take control, spin them, shake them until what they want to say is purged out of them onto that screen. 'Dhurandhar' is an example of that. Loved the storytelling. It&rsquo;s cinema,&rdquo; he wrote on his Instagram Stories.</p>

<p>The actor added that while he differed with the film&rsquo;s political stance, he was compelled to appreciate its craft.</p>
<p>&ldquo;I may disagree with the politics of it, and argue about the responsibilities us filmmakers should bear as citizens of the world. Nevertheless, can&rsquo;t ignore how I loved and learnt from this one as a student of cinema. Amazing,&rdquo; Roshan said.</p>
<p>"Dhurandhar", which also features Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, has performed strongly at the box office since its release on December 5.</p>
<p>The film has also sparked significant conversation online, including debates around its themes and politics, with several reviews describing it as &ldquo;anti-Pakistan&rdquo; and propagandist in tone.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On Thursday morning, Roshan posted another note, saying the film continued to stay with him.</p>

<p>The show will be available for streaming on Netflix and will feature the actor embracing different characters, from GenZ Baba and Tau ji to Raja, and Mantri ji, designed for every age group, according to a press release.</p>
<p>It will also have actors Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda and Krushna Abhishek join Sharma.</p>
<p>Archana Puran Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu are also returning for the new season.</p>
<p>Sharma said the audience is the reason he comes up with new seasons.</p>
<p>"Every time it feels like I have done everything, what else to do with the newer season. But the love and hope of the audience makes the way to do something new," he said in a statement.</p>

<p>"Saiyaara", starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has topped IMDb&rsquo;s list as the most popular Indian film of 2025, while Aryan Khan&rsquo;s directorial debut "The Ba****ds of Bollywood" led the rankings among web series, the platform announced on Wednesday.</p>
<p>IMDb, one of the most popular online resources for information related to films, television series and artists, released its list of most popular Indian movies and series. The rankings are based on page views from IMDb&rsquo;s more than 250 million monthly global visitors, making them a reflection of audience interest and worldwide engagement, the company said in a statement.</p>
<p>At the top of the IMDb Top 10 Most Popular Indian Movies of 2025 is Saiyaara, produced by YRF and directed by Mohit Suri. The film has become a global talking point for its emotional storytelling and chartbuster music.</p>
<p>Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, said the recognition is a &ldquo;moment of immense pride&rdquo;.</p>
<p>&ldquo;'Saiyaara' has connected with audiences across India and the world, cutting across geography, age, and culture. We are hugely grateful that it has become one of the most iconic films for YRF and for the industry... Mohit Suri brought a clear vision and deep emotion to the film, while Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda delivered confident, heartfelt debut performances," Widhani said.</p>
<p>Other films on the list include the animated blockbuster "Mahavatar Narsimha" (No. 2), Vicky Kaushal's "Chhaava" (No. 3), Rishab Shetty&rsquo;s "Kantara: A Legend &ndash; Chapter 1" (No. 4), and Rajinikanth&rsquo;s "Coolie" (No. 5). The list features five Hindi titles, two Tamil films, and one each from Kannada and Malayalam cinema.</p>

<p>The series list is dominated by crime thrillers, with seven of the ten titles belonging to the genre. It also features a strong presence from streaming platforms: four titles each from Netflix and Prime Video, and two from JioHotstar.</p>

<p>Dharmendra was admitted to the hospital on November 10 and was reported to be in the critical condition.</p>
<p>On November 11, several media houses reported his death, leading to a sharp rebuke from Malini.</p>
<p>"What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy," she had posted on X.</p>
<p>A day later, he was discharged and taken to his Juhu home, where he breathed his last. The actor was cremated at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai.&nbsp;</p>

<p>TV actor Gaurav Khanna is the winner of the popular reality TV show &ldquo;Bigg Boss&rdquo; season 19 after he beat rival Farrhana Bhatt to claim the trophy.</p>
<p>Show host and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan presented Khanna with the prize money of over Rs 50 lakh and the trophy.</p>
<p>"It is yet to sink in. It is very surreal for me now. I received so much of love. What I love about it that I didn't change a bit. I am the same when I went inside the house and came out and people like that (quality) a lot. I didn't change or faked anything," Khanna told PTI in an interview,</p>
<p>The TV star, known for his roles in "Anupama" and "CID", said the turning point was when the the superstar host expressed his desire to work with him.</p>
<p>"I cried at that very moment," he added.</p>
<p>Asked what he will do with the winning amount, Khanna said he will take the advantage of his MBA degree and invest it wisely.</p>
<p>The season 19 of the show, which kickstarted on August 24, saw Bhatt emerge as the first runner-up.</p>
<p>Bhatt, who has acted in movies like "Laila Majnu" and "Notebook", said she is happy that she got a chance to win many hearts while on the show.</p>
<p>"I never had my eyes on trophy. I was just going with the flow, doing my best and trying to contribute 100 per cent. When I came out and saw the love of the people, I didn't feel the sadness of not winning the trophy. I was like whoever wants to win trophy can win, I have won hearts outside. So I am very happy and I not sad at all," she said.</p>
<p>The stand-up comedian Pranit More ended up in the third spot.</p>
<p>Content creator Tanya Mittal was at the four position and composer Amaal Malik settled at the fifth place.</p>
<p>The highlights of &ldquo;Bigg Boss 19&rdquo; was the spiritual content creator Mittal who found a new fame inside the house due to her distinct equation with each housemates.</p>
<p>The grand finale also saw Bollywood star Kartik Aryan promote his upcoming film "Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri" along with the co-star Ananya Pandey.</p>

<p>Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol huddled under an umbrella on a rainy Thursday in London to unveil their bronze likeness from an iconic &lsquo;Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge&rsquo; scene.</p>
<p>The sculpture of the duo joins Leicester Square&rsquo;s &lsquo;Scenes in the Square&rsquo; trail depicting memorable shots from some of the world&rsquo;s most famous films, with &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; marking a Bollywood first and the 30th anniversary of the 1995 box-office hit. It is in this popular London square that SRK as Raj and Kajol as Simran first cross paths unknowingly.</p>
<p>&ldquo;DDLJ was made with a pure heart. We wanted to tell a story about love, how it can bridge barriers and how the world would be a better place if it had a lot of love in it, and I think this is why 'DDLJ' has had a lasting impact for over 30 years now," said Khan.</p>

<p>Kajol, joined by her daughter Nysa and son Yug, posed with Khan in front of the statue as she braved the rain in a green saree.</p>

Watching the statue being unveiled in London felt like reliving a piece of our history - a story that has truly travelled across generations,&rdquo; said Kajol.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Seeing it find its rightful place in Leicester Square, a location of such enormous significance to &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo;, makes this moment even more special. For the film to be honoured in this way in the UK &ndash; the first Indian film to receive such recognition &ndash; is something that will forever stay in the hearts and minds of all the &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; fans across the world,&rdquo; she said.</p>
<p>Their statue, captured in a dancing pose from the hit song &lsquo;Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna&rsquo;, joins the likes of Harry Potter, Bridget Jones, Mary Poppins, and Batman in what is dubbed as an ever-growing celebration of movie magic in a square packed with multiplex cinema screens.</p>
<p>&ldquo;When &lsquo;Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge&rsquo;, DDLJ, was released 30 years ago, the film became a defining moment for Indian cinema and changed the face of the industry, capturing the hearts of everyone who saw it all over the globe," said Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films.</p>

<p>Since its release in 1995, &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; has become the longest-running film in Hindi cinema history.</p>

<p>It is a particularly special year for the film, with a musical based on the romance playing to packed houses at Manchester&rsquo;s Opera House earlier this year.</p>
<p>Aditya Chopra reprised his role as director of the English language stage production, &lsquo;Come Fall In Love &ndash; The DDLJ Musical&rsquo;, which revolved around the love story of Simran and Roger.</p>
<p>The script was a nod to the original as it followed Simran as a young British Indian woman who finds herself engaged to a family friend in India in an arranged marriage. However, the plot thickens when she falls in love with a British man named Roger.</p>

<p>Salvador Plasencia, the doctor who supplied ketamine to &ldquo;Friends&rdquo; star Matthew Perry before his fatal overdose in 2023, was sentenced to 30 months in California.</p>

<p>A doctor who supplied "Friends" star Matthew Perry with ketamine in the months before he fatally overdosed, musing to a fellow physician over "how much this moron will pay" for the drug, was jailed in California on Wednesday.</p>
<p>Salvador Plasencia, 44, is the first of five people to face justice over Perry's 2023 death in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home.</p>
<p>Plasencia was ordered to serve 30 months in prison for supplying the drug to the actor -- who had well documented struggles with addiction -- at grossly inflated prices.</p>
<p>In a victim impact statement filed with the court, Perry's mother Suzanne Perry and his stepfather, Keith Morrison, said Plasencia -- who did not supply the fatal dose of the drug -- had neglected his duty as a doctor.</p>
<p>"Matthew's recovery counted on you saying NO," they wrote.</p>
<p>"Your motives? I can't imagine. A doctor whose life is devoted to helping people?"</p>
<p>Plasencia's attorneys, Karen Goldstein and Debra White, who had argued for a probationary sentence, said their client, who has surrendered his medical license, was filled with regret.</p>
<p>"He is not a villain. He is someone who made serious mistakes in his treatment decisions involving the off-label use of ketamine -- a drug commonly used for depression that does not have uniform standards," they said after the sentencing.</p>
<p>"The mistakes he made over the 13 days during which he treated Mr. Perry will stay with him forever."</p>
<p>Another doctor, Mark Chavez, pleaded guilty in October to conspiring to distribute ketamine to Perry.</p>
<p>Plasencia allegedly bought ketamine off Chavez and sold it to the American-Canadian actor at hugely inflated prices.</p>
<p>"I wonder how much this moron will pay," Plasencia wrote in one text message presented by prosecutors.</p>
<p>The four other people who have also admitted their part in supplying drugs to the actor will be sentenced over the coming months.</p>
<p>They include Jasveen Sangha, the alleged "Ketamine Queen" who supplied drugs to high-end clients and celebrities, who could be jailed for up to 65 years.</p>
<p>Perry's live-in personal assistant and another man pleaded guilty in August to charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine.</p>
<p><br><strong>- Addiction struggles -</strong></p>
<p>The actor's lengthy struggles with substance addiction were well-documented, but his death at age 54 sent shockwaves through the global legions of "Friends" fans.</p>
<p>A criminal investigation was launched soon after an autopsy discovered he had high levels of ketamine -- an anesthetic -- in his system.</p>
<p>In a plea deal with prosecutors, Plasencia said he went to Perry's home to administer ketamine by injection and distributed 20 vials of the drug over a roughly two-week period in autumn 2023.</p>
<p>Perry had been taking ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression.</p>
<p>But prosecutors say that before his death he became addicted to the substance, which also has psychedelic properties and is a popular party drug.</p>
<p>First airing between 1994 and 2004, the televised comedy "Friends" followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating adulthood, dating and careers, drew a massive following and made megastars of previously unknown actors.</p>
<p>Perry's role as the sarcastic man-child Chandler brought him fabulous wealth, but hid a dark struggle with addiction to painkillers and alcohol.</p>
<p>In 2018, he suffered a drug-related burst colon and underwent multiple surgeries.</p>
<p>In his 2022 memoir "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing," Perry described going through detox dozens of times.</p>
<p>"I have mostly been sober since 2001," he wrote, "save for about sixty or seventy little mishaps."</p>

<p>Speaking about the film, Ranveer said in a press note, &ldquo;(The Wrath of God) We wanted to create a feature presentation that's at par with any film in the world. Our attempt was to level up in every aspect of the cinematic process to create a film that we as Indians can be proud of.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given the green signal to the Ranveer-starrer spy thriller after addressing concerns raised by the parents of Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal awardee Major Mohit Sharma. <br><br>The CBFC clarified that the film is entirely fictional, with no direct or indirect resemblance to Major Sharma&rsquo;s life. It also highlighted that the film carries an explicit disclaimer stating that all characters, events, and storylines are fictitious and do not relate to any real persons, living or deceased.</p>
<p>Directed and written by Aditya Dhar, the spy-action thriller stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar is slated for a theatrical release on December 5, 2025.</p>

<p>According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, is among the 15 films now eligible for final nominations in the International Feature Film category at the 2026 Oscars. "Fifteen films will advance to the next round of voting in the International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards. Films from 86 countries or regions were eligible in the category," stated the AMPAS website.</p>
<p>Homebound has been shortlisted alongside films such as Argentina's Belen, Brazil's The Secret Agent, France's It Was Just an Accident, and Germany's Sound of Falling. The film follows childhood friends Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa), whose shared dream of joining the police force shapes their lives, with Janhvi Kapoor providing emotional depth in a story about friendship, duty, and the pressures faced by young Indians.</p>
<p>Earlier in 2025, Homebound garnered recognition at several film festivals and award shows, further cementing its reputation as a significant Indian cinematic entry on the international stage.</p>

While multiplex expansion has increased screen growth over the past decade, larger capacities and premium pricing have often impacted occupancy levels in non-metro markets. Consequently, smaller theatres with controlled seating and lower operating costs are increasingly being seen as a sustainable model for Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns.</p>
<p>Commenting on the audience response, Rahul Nehra, Managing Director of Citara Plex, said, "Our focus has been on building right-sized cinemas for smaller markets. <p>During Messi's visit to Kolkata, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan arrived along with his youngest son, AbRam Khan, to meet the player.</p>
<p>Messi arrived in India with long-time strike partner Luis Su&aacute;rez and Argentina teammate Rodrigo De Paul. His tour will conclude today with him meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.</p>
<p>He has previously visited India in 2011, when he led the Argentina national team in a match against Venezuela. The match took place at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.</p>
