Cannes 2023: French filmmaker Justine Triet is the third woman to win Palme d'Or for 'Anatomy of a Fall'

French director Justine Triet won the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or for her film 'Anatomy of a Fall' on May 27. She is the third female director to win Cannes' top prize.

'Anatomy of a Fall' beat 20 other films in competition for the award.

‘We're at the dawn of deep-seated changes in this respect,’ Justine said after winning.

Jane Fonda, who represented the award, affirmed that one day it would be normal and not historic for women to win. ‘We have a long way to go. But still, we have to celebrate change when it happens,’ she said.

In her speech, Justine also criticised the protest against pension reforms in France, which she said ‘has been denied and repressed in a shocking way.’ She also talked about how more space is needed to be made for young filmmakers so they are able to make mistakes and start over.
