Uttarakhand Election 2022: This Assembly seat decides who forms the next govt

Uttarakhand's Ramnagar Assembly seat is important in more than one sense.

The state's first chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari was elected from here.

A part of the Nainital district, Ramnagar seat is seen as a bellwether constituency. One of the beliefs attached to the seat is that whichever party wins Ramnagar, forms the government in the state.

And the records support that.

In the year 2000, when the state was carved out of UP, CM ND Tiwari chose Ramnagar to contest.

In 2002, Congress' Yogember Singh Rawat won the seat and the Congress formed the govt.

In 2007, Ramnagar elected BJP's Diwan Singh Bisht, and the party won the election

Then in 2012, Congress' Amrita Rawat won Ramnagar and the party returned to power

Even in the last elections in 2017, BJP's Diwan Singh Bisht won the seat and BJP formed the government.

All eyes are again on Ramnagar. This time the contest is between BJP's Diwan Singh Bisht and Congress' Mahendra Pal Singh.

Ramnagar is a major tourism destination in the hill state as it houses the Corbett National Park.

Only a small portion of Ramnagar is hilly and most of it lies in plains. But due to opportunities in the tourism sector, the constituency has the population of both hill and plains people.

Another interesting bit about Ramnagar is that it has voters from both Kumaon and Garhwal regions.

So, who will Ramnagar elect this time?
