Assembly Elections 2022: Uttarakhand and Goa voting today

Assembly Elections 2022: Goa is voting today to decide the fate of 301 candidates who are in the fray for 40 Assembly seats.

Over 11 lakh people are eligible to vote in the single-phase poll.

Traditionally a state with bipolar politics, Goa is witnessing a multi-cornered contest this time, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other smaller parties vying to make a mark on the state's electoral scene.

The prominent candidates include Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, former CMs Churchill Alemao, Laxmikant Parsekar, former deputy CM Vijai Sardesai, late CM Manohar Parrikar's son Utpal Parrikar and AAP's CM face Amit Paleker.

In Uttarakhad, over 81 lakh voters are casting their ballot to decide the fate of 632 candidates. The elections for the 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand spread over 13 districts are being conducted in a single phase.

It is the fifth assembly elections in Uttarakhand after its creation in 2000.

Important candidates whose fate will be decided in these polls include Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former minister Yashpal Arya and state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal.

The counting of votes for both states will be held on March 10
