The tug-of-war over Hindu god Krishna continues in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. A day after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav claimed that he sees Hindu god Krishna in his dreams every night and receives predictions that his party will be victorious in the upcoming elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath fired salvos.

Addressing a public rally, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Adityanath said that Krishna must be asking Akhilesh to repent for not doing anything for the state when he was in power. Yogi went on to say that 'Kansa' had taken birth under the SP government, which had led to incidents like Mathura violence. In 2016, followers of a cult leader Ram Vriksha Yadav had clashed with police in Mathura's Jawahar Bagh. Over 25 people had died in the incident. Moving on to the issue of the Ram temple, Yogi said that those who had 'shot devotees of Ram couldn't have built a temple in his honour' in Ayodhya.

The Krishna dream saga was kicked off by BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav. The Rajya Sabha member had claimed that the Hindu god appeared in his dreams to specify the constituency from which Yogi Adityanath should contest. Yadav said Krishna wants the CM to fight from Mathura in the upcoming polls.

The ruling BJP is facing a multi-pronged albeit fractured Opposition, comprising of the Samajwadi Party, the Indian National Congress, and the Bahujan Samaj Party, among others.
