UP Election 2022: PM Modi lays foundation of Noida International Airport at Jewar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport in Jewar today.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also attended the 'bhoomi pujan' at the greenfield project site at Jewar in district Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The development of the first phase of the airport is being done at a cost of over ₹ 10,050 crore.

The airport is spread over more than 1300 hectares of land. The completed first phase of the airport will have a capacity to serve around 1.2 crore passengers a year and the work on it is scheduled to be completed by 2024.

The Noida International Airport is being developed in public-private partnership mode and is touted to be the biggest airport in India upon completion. It will be developed in four phases, with the entire project estimated to cost around Rs 30,000 crore.

Adityanath has claimed that the Noida Airport will bring in investment up to Rs 35,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh and will create one lakh job opportunities.

Taking to Twitter, the prime minister had said that the project will boost commerce, connectivity and tourism.

"Tomorrow, 25th November is a major day for India's and Uttar Pradesh's strides in infra creation. At 1 PM, the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport will be laid. This project will significantly boost commerce, connectivity and tourism," the PM had tweeted on Wednesday.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is flaunting its infrastructure push ahead of the Assembly elections early next year.

The state is set to get the highest number of international airports in the country.

Uttar Pradesh had only two international airports - Lucknow and Varanasi - till 2012. The third international airport at Kushinagar became operational after it was inaugurated by PM Modi on October 20, while work on the airport in Ayodhya is on in full swing and air services are expected to start early next year. Noida will be the fifth international airport in the state.

The state, at present, has eight operational airports, while 13 airports and seven airstrips are being developed.
