UP Election 2022: Ayodhya seat for Yogi and other key talking points from BJP marathon meet

The core committee of the BJP held its second marathon meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, in which discussions on seat-sharing with allies and candidates for Uttar Pradesh assembly election took place, news agency ANI reported.

The marathon meet, that reportedly lasted for 14 hours and ended at 1:30 am on Thursday, was chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present.

The BJP has reportedly finalised the list of candidates for the first three phases. These names will be discussed in the BJP's Central Election Committee meeting on Thursday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present, before being announced officially, according to ANI.

Apart from other candidates, the BJP meet also discussed fielding Yogi Adityanath from the Ayodhya Assembly seat. Adityanath is a five-time member of Parliament from Gorakhpur and also the head of the Gorakhnath Math. He is currently a member of the state’s legislative council.

There have also been demands for the CM to contest Mathura Assembly seat in the upcoming polls.

The seat-sharing deal with allies will also be announced after the CEC meeting. The BJP has alliance with the Sanjay Nishad-led NISHAD party and Anupriya Patel-led Apna Dal.

In the last 2017 assembly elections, BJP had given 11 seats to Apna Dal while 8 seats to Omprakash Rajbhar's party. However, Om Prakash Rajbhar is now with Samajwadi Party.
