UP Election 2022: Arrest warrant against OBC leader a day after he quit Team Yogi

Tuesday: Resignation.
Wednesday: Arrest warrant.

A local court in UP's Sultanpur on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against ex-minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who has resigned from the Yogi Adityanath cabinet and is set to join the Samajwadi Party.

The warrant has been issued in a seven year old case lodged against Maurya in 2014 for allegedly making objectionable comments against Hindu gods.

The court issued the warrant against Maurya after he did not attend the court hearing on Wednesday. The court had on January 6 directed Maurya to appear before it on January 12 but he did not appear

In 2016, an arrest warrant was issued against him in the same case which was stayed by the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court.

An influential OBC leader, Maurya, had quit the BSP and joined the BJP before the last Assembly elections.
