Shariah, hijab, Ghazwa-e-Hind: Yogi's focus as UP votes in Phase 2

As some constituencies with sizeable Muslim population voted in Phase 2 of Uttar Pradesh elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's religiously-coloured remarks continued.

In an interview with news agency ANI, the BJP leader spoke on issues like the hijab debate in Karnataka, and Asaduddin Owaisi's comment that a hijab-clad woman would one day be India's prime minister.

On the opposition to a ban on hijab inside classrooms, Adityanath reportedly said that personal beliefs can't be imposed on the country and institutions. As an example, he said that he can't ask all employees in the state to wear saffron clothes.

The UP CM also defended his tweet on 'Ghazwa-e-Hind'. The phrase 'Ghazwa-e-Hind' is used by Pakistan-based terrorist groups to refer to a war to capture India by Islamist warriors. "New India will work according to the Constitution, not 'shariat'. The dream of 'Ghazwa-e-Hind' will not be fulfilled even till Judgement Day," he said.
