Fresh setback for BJP in UP, another cabinet minister Dara Singh Chauhan quits

In yet another setback for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, a senior minister in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet quit his post on Wednesday.

Dara Singh Chauhan wrote in his resignation letter that he is resigning as he is hurt by this government's oppressive attitude towards the backward, deprived sections, Dalits, farmers and unemployed youth and the neglect of quota for the backward and Dalits.

Continuing a flurry of exits that started with Swami Prasad Maurya's shock resignation on Tuesday, this is the second Other Backward Class leader to quit Yogi cabinet just before the Uttar Pradesh election voting for which is slated early next month.

Two ministers and four MLAs have quit the BJP so far. Pertinently, the Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar had on Tuesday claimed that 13 ruling lawmakers will quit the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Chauhan held the Forest and Environment portfolio. Asked whether he will be join the Samajwadi Party, Chauhan said he would consult his supporters before the future course of action.
