'Fill up your...': Rahul Gandhi's jibe on Modi govt's 'election-time offer' | Petrol, diesel prices

Two days before the 5-state election exercise comes to an end, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at the Union government.

Gandhi's tweet of an image of a fuel pump with the text 'hike - coming back soon to fuel stations near you' was accompanied by the caption, "Quickly fill up your vehicles' fuel tanks. Modi government's election offer is about to end."

Fuel prices in India have reportedly not been changed for 118 consecutive days. With elections in key states coming to an end, commentators expect a fuel hike soon, especially due to a steep rise in international crude oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Investment banking firm JP Morgan reportedly said recently, "With state elections getting over next week, we expect daily fuel price hikes to restart across both gasoline and diesel."

International crude prices have crossed the $100 per barrel-mark. It was reportedly $81.5 per barrel when petrol and diesel prices were last revised in India.

In Delhi, a litre of petrol currently costs Rs 95.41, while diesel costs Rs 86.67, according to reports.
