With campaigning for the Punjab Assembly elections in the last leg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.

Addressing a rally in Fazilka, PM Modi took exception to Channi's comments regarding 'UP, Bihar, Delhi ke bhaiyya'. Referring to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, PM Modi said that the CM's 'maalik' (boss) was sitting and clapping when Channi made the remarks. Channi had said that he won't let 'bhaiyyas' from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi come and rule Punjab. Priyanka Gandhi is leading Congress' UP poll campaign.

PM Modi accused the Congress of making people of different regions fight for electoral gain. He also cited the birthplaces of significant Sikh religious figures to counter Channi.

Modi said that Guru Gobind Singh was born in Patna in present-day Bihar, and Sant Ravidas was born in Varanasi in present-day UP. The Prime Minister asked whether the Chief Minister would also have thrown these eminent personalities out of the state.

Punjab will be voting to elect its next government on February 20. Results of the polls will be announced on March 10.
